Am I tying my ties wrong?

I've got a lot of ties since recently getting into the workforce. I don't own too many cheapo ones too, I have a few cheap ones and for them to fall apart I can understand. But Im at my desk now and one i got from Barneys New York just died. It seems a lot of my ties have the thread coming apart at the skinnier end of tie. Am I a bad tie tyer? (hee hee)

I usually do a full windsor knot. I do happen to pull them pretty hard to make that special little triangle. Am I the only one or do ties usually die after a while?

my ties last for years. almost all are silk, i hate polyester ties, but my mo-in-law gave me 1-2 so i have to keep them :/

I've never had a tie fall apart i've been using my ties for everyday for the past 3 years. Mine are from big and tall.

I always have the tags, on the back that hold the skinny part down, fall off. 🙁 One of my favorites that I can't find anywhere I fixed with a safety pin

That's your problem. I ALWAYS tie a full windsor and I have never had such a problem. It should be no more than a gentile tug while you're rotating the tie around your kneck back and forth

That's your problem. I ALWAYS tie a full windsor and I have never had such a problem. It should be no more than a gentile tug while you're rotating the tie around your kneck back and forth

Ive never had any problems with the windsor knot and keeping the triangle very small by tugging with a bit of force. I happen to think a smaller knot looks better than a fat one (since I have a small frame and thin neck).

Mine sometimes die, but not without cause (too lazy to untie them, incompetent people at the cleaners, etc). I wear them very regularly, too.

Are you tying them correctly? Any knots, done properly, shouldn't be causing any undue pressure on the seams.


Barney's will restitch them, I'm guessing. I mailed in a tie to Hermes a few months ago and they sent it back cleaned, pressed, and stitched tight as new.
