Am I the only one who..

Notices that after defragmenting the drive, I have MORE free space being reported by the system than I did before? Only logical conclusion I can come up with is the fact that if files are fragmented and not taking up the whole cluster, space is wasted...

A file has to use an entire cluster, whether the clusters are fragmented or not is irrelevent. The only filesystems that I know of that allow a single cluster to be occupied by more than one file's data is NetWare's filesystem and I think Reiser4. How much of a difference are you talking?

Like a gigabyte....After defragmenting my HDD, I magically had a whole 'nother gig available to me..

Well, it wasnt from the defrag itself. What tool did you use, something that might have emptied your recycle bin or temp files before the defrag ran?

Thing is, while I did "clean up the drive" before the defrag, I checked my free space and then after defragging I happened to check agian and I had another gig, yes before the defrag it was a refeshed reading of my HDD....

Look, the space did not come from the defrag. So you intentionally or unintentionally did something else which accounts for it.

Thats what I was thinking but eh.. and I know it's not the pagefile because it's set at a definate size of 1.5gigabytes, 1536MB...
