I am positive that the 16:9 trend is part of a greater scheme in order the new world order to inure the human brain of the good people into focus dearth state.

I believe the move to 16:9 aspect ratio is because they can cut more glass panels this way. At least vs cutting glass panels in a 16:10 aspect ration. The other issue is one of consolidating panel sizes for LCD monitors and LCD TV's. So it all comes down to money.

I hate the 16:9 aspect ratio. 16:10 was good and provided a good compromise between having it wider but still with enough vertical real estate to be usable. 16:9 cuts this a tad too short.

16:10 monitor allows you to watch 16:9 TV shows and have a menu without having to add blackbars. It also allows two word documents side by side without the zoom out being ridiculous. 16:9 just isn't enough vertical workspace imo.

for games and video I prefer 16:10, but for word processing and browsing I think the 4:3 aspect ratio was better since most documents run column style and my eye prefers slightly shorter lines. But of course alot of 24" 16:10 monitors have the swivel function (mine does) voiding that benefit of 4:3
