Am I the only one who finds computer related shopping frustrating?

My almost 7 year old(made on 23rd week of yr 1995) 17" monitor is about to die. It's been having ocassional ghosting problem and makes weird clicking noise. Have gone to a few different shops and computer super stores(CompUSA sorta store) with my parents(store dorks treats me completely differently when I'm with the 'rents ) over the last few weeks and I still don't know what I want. Its so frustrating being drowned in so many choices.

I'm running 1182x864 on 17" right now so I want an 17 or 18" LCD that can do 1600x1200(very hard to find. most max out at 1280x1024), 19" CRT, 22" CRT or I don't know... I'm sooo confused....

The pitfall of having to replace failing stuff is that you have this desire to get "might as well get something better"...

A few years back I actually enjoyed shopping for computer stuff. Now its just full of confusion and headache, especially with similar peripherals with lots of chocies. I'm totally going nuts over this whole monitor thing. I hope this monitor survives another few years(unlikely :( ) . I don't even want to think about disposal issues :|

If you're satisfied with the size of the monitor, just look for a very nice new 17". My friend has a Viewsonic 17" that does 1600x1200 @ 75Hz. Just look up a good 17" from a reputable company.

And no, computer related shopping does not frustrate me. I know what I want before I get to the store. And I only go to stores that specialize in computers, not a store that sells all kinds of junk.

This is easy.

First figure out how much you can afford.

Then do your price research.

Finally, get the best merchandise you can afford for however much money you can afford.

How is this confusing?
