So when hi end smartphones are reviewed it is always first about how much metal it has.. and more metal is considered premium etc.. now, am I the only one who actually does not like the touch of a metal smartphone in my hand all day long?

you are not the only 1.
my htc one felt heavy and tough like a brick.
then i used the samsung galaxy s3 of the wife and it felt so much lighter and softer to hold up against the ear for extended period of time.

i dont like holding bricks up against my ears. i am pretty sure i am not the only 1 as well

it's not even about the weight.. it's just that if i hold metal in my hands for a certain amount of time they have that metal smell.. i'm not allergic to metal.. i just don't get why most people like the touch of it?

I don't like a slippery thin phone so I encase mine in case so the feel of the case is what I care about. My phone, S6, is glass front and rear maybe that will work for you?

I dont mind.

What I hate is anything that smudges easily. The kevlar backs on Motorola phones were nice. But I havent owned a Motorola phone in some time. Cuz they suck.

I had the HTC M8 and now the LG G3. I can appreciate the nicer build quality of the almost all metal M8 but it really feels like twice the weight. Anytime I need to talk for longer than a few minutes I always go looking for my blutooth headset. With the G3 I can hold it for much longer.
The smooth metal back is also damn slippery and you will likely drop it at one time or another if you don't put on a case. I had those leather skin wrap and it definitely helped give a better grip.
After a week with the G3 I prefer it over the M8 however I did have to flash a debloated and tweaked stock rom to get the smoothness of a stock M8.

I don't mind metal too much although I'd rather have a lighter phone. What I do mind is sharp edges and in that regard I actually prefer the iPhone 6 over the Galaxy S6 Edge (the regular Galaxy S6 is fine).

Overall, I prefer something like the Motorola kevlar or even Samsung faux leather for the combination of lightness and grippiness.

With samsung faux leather you mean the back of the s4 black edition, right?.. too bad they didn't do the faux leather also at the sides

Same here. I actually prefer the metal but mine lives in a case so doesn't really matter.

I don't mind the metal but I don't like the sharp edges. I have the iPhone 5S in a $2 rubber case because I don't like the feeling of the sharp metal edges in my hand.

It's one of few things I truly dislike about my 6 Plus. The metal sans case is cold to handle in the winter where I currently live. It's also super slippery. I'm using a thin and light case that gives me a good grip. Kevlar is my favorite phone material. Followed by a quality plastic like the Nexus 5. I bet the leather of the G4 is great too. No love for metal.
