am I the only one who did not like the movie 'Gladiator'?

I think the movie 'was good', but there was something that I didn't like or did not convince me at all. I don't know what though.

You think it's good and you don't like it? :p ;)

I haven't seen it, but from what I've heard it's excellent, and I want to see it, I'll find out for myself. :)

I felt the ending wasnt as good as it could have been.Maxamus could have wacked the head off of Ceaser,or what ever his name was, then lived happily ever after with the female lead,or he could have recouped and taken over.To just die like that I felt was lame. Also to go thru the entire movie without even a paper cut, then get wounded rite at the end,to me was a cop-out.

Gladiator is one of the best of all time.

It plays all of your emotions... especially if you're a guy :)

I bought the DVD.

It was very good right up until the ending. Too much building to the ending. By then you could almost tell what was going to happen before it did happen. Action was great. Camera work excellent. Lame story.

On the DVD there are some extra scenes that really would have helped the movie if they were included I think. Plot didn't do much for me but the cinematography was awesome. I rented White Squall after that one (another of the Director's movie) with the same amazing cinematography.

I liked everything

He was only hurt when he was chained up, he couldn't stop that. The bad guy didn't want to lose. He couldn't just live on, his time was up. Time to go home where he should have already been.

Duckers,

I'm with ya; This was a GREAT movie the 1st time. A decent movie the 2nd time, and now I don't really care for watching it anymore...Just doen't have the 'watch over and over' appeal.

I think I have to agree with Tominator, the story could have been better.

Another thing is that according to my knowledge in history (I am not pretending to be an expert ;)), Commodus ruled from 180-192 AD, when he was murdered.

I think the city of Rome itself was so exaggerated. Perhaps it should have been portrayed in a more realistic and believable way...IMHO

If you die because you're too lazy to properly drug someone before trying to kill him then you deserve to die.

I just feel like critiquing movies tonight--I just hammered "Castaway."

"Gladiator" had pretty much everything except a good plot. It had a plot, but it was predictable. If the movie had been able to keep me from guessing everything I would have liked it a lot more. Don't get me wrong, it had awesome effects, decent acting, and some hotties, but it was lacking in the story department. If you can't tell what's about to happen, you need to read more. I wouldn't pay $7.00 to watch it again, but I would buy the DVD, if that makes any sense.

it lacks a really solid storyline.....

* Maximus leads final battle against the barbs

* Ceasar dies, son takes over

* Maximus becomes a gladiator, battles once or twice and comes to Rome

* Maximus kills Ceasar's son

end of story :p

still a very cool movie :)

The movie was cool, but it could have had a better plot.
In my case, Gladiator didn't fall into the category of 'I am going to watch this movie over and over again'

For me, it?s the lack of emotion. A good example of what I'm talking about... hmm lets see, yes. That part in Brave Heart where that English Pig (no offence to brits) cut Wallace?s wife's throat. You know you wanted to chop that PHUCKER to pieces.

Get it?

BTW, It would have been better if Maximus escaped and brought back his big ass army. But NOO!!!!! they just had to capture him! SOB!!!! ;)

it was a good action movie but lacked horribly in categories that would make it truely great.

One criticizism is that it overused that 2x frame effect like they were being paid per frame... you know the effect, its like half the action scenes :p

what they should have done is get rid of the "story" entirely and just make it entirely Gladiating... not that they almost didn't pull that one off anyways

I thought the movie was one of the best ever and was very well 'done'. I bought the DVD in fact...

I loved it because it didnt overkill with too much story.

Take a look at the old John Wayne flicks that were worth watching over and over.
They had extremely simple plots. It was the play between the characters that drove the films.
Gladiator did that for me.
When I came out of Vertical Limit, I realized that it was ruined by too much story, not enough acting.

Also, Maximus accomplished what drove him throughout the movie, gave Rome back to the people, and went to his family.

This last weekend I watched Spartacus, and decided it was a better story than Gladiator, but not as exciting or spectacular because of the technology available now.

I was disappointed with it. At the time everyone said it was better than Braveheart. Ha!!!! I think that is what ruined it for me. I had it built up and it just didnt live up to its billing. I wouldnt be disappointed if someone gave it to me, but I dont think I will buy it for my DVD collection. Visuals are pretty good but it lacked true feeling in the story.
