Am I the only one who can't get High Speed Internet?

There are no options available where I live. None. Only dialup, or 144kbs DSL connection for $79 a month. I live in a city of 55,000 and am only 20 minutes east of cleveland. Just wondering if anyone else is unable to get broadband access. Also, estimated time to receive BB is next summer, but on the other hand, they have said it would have been done since 1999.

i cannot either at my new apt(had it at the old place). I moved 7 miles closer to the Detroit metro area and cant get anything except IDSL at $80/mo 🙁

That 144 kbps DSL is almost certainly IDSL, which runs over existing ISDN infrastructures. (128 KB + two 8 K control channels = 144K) IDSL is expensive, but can reach areas that DSL may not be able to.

Have you considered satellite access? The latency sucks, but the download speed isn't bad.

You might even be able to combine IDSL and satellite into something usable, though it would be expensive as hell.

Back when cable was new to my area It didn't reach here, and DSL was available down the street (Literally) but not here at my house and they said it would not be available for another year or two. I feel your pain

I have the option of paying for broadband since my neighborhood is wired for digital cable, but I'm still using dial-up. Why? Because I'm networked at my office during the day, and by the time I get home at night I don't really feel like spending hours in front of a monitor screen.

My connection is always 50.6 kbps and someimes 52.0 at night. I find this adequate for the most part. Yeah, I know...downloads can be a big hassle, and streaming video and other broadband features are out of the question. If I was into hardcore gaming, I"d change in a minute.
