I liked the book a lot, too. One of those *classic* Earthman smart, overcomes galaxy, feel-good stories.

I haven't yet seen the movie, is it true to the book?

I was reading the book before I saw the movie. I got three pages into it and threw it across the lightrail car that I was riding to work that day (with no one else around) because I felt like doing something random with it, picked it up, and lost it in my room for several months before throwing it away.

Yes, I quite disliked it.

Bingo. Geez, people, it's camp. Not every science fiction movie is Star Wars.

That's ma'am to you, sir. And to each his (or her) own. I liked it (and I agree that you had to get past the first few pages).

That's actually one of my favorite books - but I skipped out on the movie, everyone said it was so bad I figured no reason to bother...

The book kicks @ss.

The movie sucked @ss - it took the middle of the book, leaving out the beginning and end.

I didn't like this movie too much. When it came on PPV, I got to see it, but it sucked IMHO.

The psychosis of the author and his followers prevents me from thinking ANYTHING involved with L. Ron Hubbard is good.
