Agreed, only commented on it because a) he brought it up and b) it goes to show you how young the typical ipod lover is - calling someone names = winning an argument for them. No offense, you seem fine, but you're the exception rather than the rule.

did someone really go after your dog? I didn't bother reading all 6 pages.
loic2003 did in a thread in the Peripherals forum. He also stated that the standard ipod headphones are high quality because they use neodymium magnets, that headphone amplifiers require car batteries and that good headphones cost 500 Great Britain Pounds. It's actually a hilarious read, I'm considering linking it to head-fi and a few other audiophile forums for laughs.

Gurck, I never insulted you, and I don't think either of us will win this argument, because I still love my iPod, and you still hate iPods.......you see where I'm going here?
I admit that there is a better player on the market (I voted no/yes) but for what I need, this is fine.

Not you specifically, but the general trend in these "discussions" is something like...

Me: <lists features & price of other players vs features & price of ipod>
ipod_lover_01: "ololololo u sux"
ipod_lover_02: "ur mom!!1!1"
ipod_lover_03: "omg it r0xx0rz my mommy baut me 1 n it rulz!!1"

As I mentioned, loic2003 couldn't help but insult my dog in a Peripherals thread about ipods when he realized he had no argument. The first quote in my sig is actually his, but I find it so humorous I want to keep it there as a bit of comedy rather than a finger-pointing game. And he's not the only one by a long shot.

Forgive the tardiness of my return into this slander-fest but I have had other things to do with my time (alien concept to many in here, it would seem ;) ). Unfortunately 'tis late here in the UK and I have no time to write a fitting response to gurck's pleasantries. Thanks for keeping on-topic gurck and not drifting off to petty levels such as "yeah he took the piss out of my doggy" as now I only have to write about the advantages/disadvantages of the iTunes/iPod package.

oh, before I go, any chance you could name that one player and one piece of software that is overall a better system than the iPod/iTunes package? I'll address why iTunes is an important aspect of the debate at a later stage. Humour me and assume it is also when posting your decision.

What, insult someone's screen name in a thread about politics? Inform AT that a PSU's wattage rating is all that matters?

Already have; all of them. Further, your beloved piece of crap is not a "package"; itunes is available for free to anyone who wants it. Apple offsets this cost by using it as a form of advertising; by making installation of their malware (QT) and resetting of your file associations unnegotiable conditions of installing itunes, they get to show you an ad (splash screen) every time you watch a video. Most PC users don't know how to uninstall it, and you can try resetting associations until you're blue in the face - QT won't let you. They know advertising, that's for sure. I'll say it again; taking advantage of fools in a legal manner is an excellent business strategy; I commend them for it, and do the same for my own income. That they get their fools to defend them so rabidly is beyond my comprehension; perhaps given years of study I could learn the intricacies of psychology which allow this, but for now I'm quite frankly baffled, and more than a bit jealous.

what?!

Already have; all of them.
Then it must be easy to choose one and name it. Don't forget the software.

...and do the same for my own income.
Elaborate on this (out of interest, not flame).

Just taking a guess at what other things you might be doing :p If I were buying one right now, I'd get the iaudio 40gb m3 for ~$330, so I'll say that one, though as previously stated, all players are better. Software isn't a factor at all, though a file manager and a quality PC player like foobar are better than itunes fwiw. I capitalize on peoples' impatience to sell or buy goods quickly.

I owned a Creative Zen Extra. I couldn't stand the navigation or how it sounded. I sold it and got an iRiver H120. I love it. Only complaint is that iRiver sucks at firmware. They have promised time after time they would release firmware. They eventually did release one and it was half-as*ed. Still waiting on a decent release. However, rockbox is working on getting their firmware on the iRiver. Can't wait for that!

Anyone have experience with apple support and returning an iPod or getting one fixed? I ask because this could be important to some people. Rio has become so awful in this regard that I would never, ever recommend a Karma or other hard drive Rio product, unless you get the extended warranty and don't mind paying a new warranty fee each time you have to replace it.

Not to mention that Rio, along with iRiver, are very quick to abandon their hardware when it comes to firmware. There has been only one firmware, which came out about a week after I got it, for the karma. It's been quite a long time...

I haven't had to deal with creative's support for nomads - I did own a nomad for about a week but really couldn't get used to the interface or the bloated software which was, in fact, worse than iTunes and the software that comes with the karma - but I have had to deal with their support for other products, and found the experience somewhat pleasant.

Gurck, I was just wondering how much time you have spent reading/writing on this thread in the past few days? A rough estimate in hours will do....

Probably less than you've spent watching IQ-attack TV programming... What does this have to do with DAPs though?

How does the IQ attack of TV compare to the IQ attack of an mp3 player thread though? I'd much rather watch a new episode of Deadwood (which is probably more of an IQ growth show due to the ocassionaly cryptic dialogue) than watch an mp3 player debate.

No access to a TV currently. Also, no new deadwood episodes for a while.

Gurck, stop it with the half-assed claims, QuickTime does NOT force you to set any file-types, PERIOD. Just as WMP and WinAmp do, it allows you to choose which filetypes to associate with QuickTime, if you're too incompetent to install QT, then why are you even here?

I'm perfectly competent, but thanks for the jab... sucks to have to do that when you have no argument, yes? Had you actually read the post (second time you've responded without doing so, I'm starting to wonder about your literacy level), you'd see I'm referring to the average user, who indeed doesn't know how to uninstall it. Again, it gives you the option whether or not to reset your file associations; the problem is that regardless of your choice, it resets them. You would know this had you even tried using a different player, but then I'm sure it's easy to sit there creaming your shorts about how much Apple "rulz" becuase of their image, paid for by advertising dollars, and to knock the competition without even having any knowledge of or experience with it...

Repeating myself is getting tiresome, please read before replying in the future. If you have trouble understanding my posts, feel free to PM me or to consult dictionary.com to ascertain my meaning.

I don't see why you need to insult me since I was just asking a question nicely. It just seems to me like you are acting like your mother was raped by an iPod or something. Is that what really happened to cause your feelings?
