Am I the only one that prefers the BIOS GUI to that of current UEFI's?

While I truly do appreciate everything that UEFI has brought to the table in terms of being a BIOS replacement. I just for some reason really prefer the much simpler interface of BIOS.

No mouse support, no lag, no low resolution graphics...just text.

I like the "advanced mode" of UEFI's which acts more like the old BIOS. None of that stupid graphic BS, just a simple functional UI.

I see the newer style UEFI so infrequently, that I haven't really been able to form an opinion of it. It just isn't used in most OEM-built systems, even newer ones.

Switching for one manufacturer to another = pure chaos,

The problem for me is that each manufacturer came up with its own design. Locating simple settings from one manufacturer to another is a more difficult with the new and fancy GUIs. The problem is when you're a support technician and you loose precious time when trying to set up simple settings in BIOS. The old text GUI was doing it's job pretty good; it was generic. In fact, you can implement current GUIs in text also without losing any UEFI functionality, but nobody is doing this. I just don't see the usefulness of a mouse in BIOS. When the first fancy GUIs came out, I admit I was very enthusiastic of the idea. Now I want the old text based GUIs back.

Remember the AMI WinBIOS? It was a text-mode windowing environment, for BIOS. It was kind of short-lived, I think.

You can have "old style BIOS" even with UEFI. Some companies just like to use the new possibilities.

If I recall right there was also mouse support etc in some old traditional BIOSes.

I miss the speed at which I could setup a bios in the old layout.
The UEFI does bring nice things to the table but general lag is frustrating.

I have an evga z87 ftw and I also have experienced strange mouse behavior and freezing while attempting to navigate the bios. The uefi looks good but I prefer the ability to navigate without getting a mouse involved at the bios level.

Yes, I absolutely prefer the plain text. We had GUIs long before EUFI, and they didn't die off due to not working. Several OEMs have stuck to console-like interfaces, some whitebox interfaces can be changed to that, and Dell, at least, has a simple GUI that is easy to navigate w/ the KB, and laid out almost the same as their old interfaces, pre-GUI.

It's also not too uncommon for old mainframe apps to be replaced with fancy GUIs, only to need to have the old terminal interfaces recreated for efficiency :). Since there's no technical limitation encouraging text-based interfaces, I suspect we'll see more GUIs with keyboard-oriented layouts (arrows and tab to get everywhere, clear separation of panels and their focus, etc.), rather than a reversion back to text.

Yes, that. It's barely changed in the brand new Optiplexes and Latitudes, from the old console-like interface, and I generally use it with the keyboard alone.

I have a Gigabyte Z68-UD3-iSSD that offered up a UEFI BIOS for one of the boards last releases, as at the time Gigabyte was notorious for being about the last holdout for adding UEFI. I gave it a try but could not even get close to the mild OC on my 2500k (4.1ghz) that I got from the good old reliable BIOS menu.
