I cant seem to buy or pick up any other machine gun besides the Bastard...is it just me? Surely it cant be!

I have tried both on my gaming PC (which is a retail disk version) AND on my laptop (which is a downloaded Steam copy).

At first I thought that it might be my use of a trainer on my gaming PC copy that has f!cked me...so I copied my saved games over to my laptop from my gaming PC (the laptop version has not been used with any trainer/cheats) thinking that it might be something with the retail copy...still a no go...

I can buy/switch my pistol and shotgun area, but Ive been stuck with the Bastard the entire game...

Everytime I try to buy a new gun the seller says something along the lines of "Im out" or "Im holding it for someone"...and this is with EVERY seller at EVERY station, and Ive passed like 5 so far...and again, I cant even pick up any guns during gameplay...

Am I the only one?

I saw this issue on another forum. They said it is because they used a trainer and bought guns before they were given the bastard rifle for free. Apparently this screws up everything after.

I know I shouldn't judge or patronize people, but why the fuck are you using a trainer? No, no, no.. Don't even start. I don't want to hear your lame excuse... I said, stop! I don't want to hear it!

You might as well not be playing the game at all! You are ruining your experience and you'll never know what it was like for me to play this game without a trainer. And believe me I am enjoying it by far more than you ever could... There is NOTHING in this game that could possibly make you use a trainer... There's plenty of ammo. The enemies are never too hard. No such thing as weight or encumbrance. You don't need more weapons than are available either... /end of rant (and yes, I feel much better now) ; )

The reason why you are having your issues, is off course because you are using a trainer. I can buy weapons everywhere they are available without any issues. But you don't have to "buy" weapons. You can find really good ones if you carefully look around. Metro 2033 really rewards anyone who is thorough and persistent in his search. Every descent weapon is cleverly hidden in such a way where it's not too hard to find, but not too easy either.

So far I found a rifle/revolver, a "Tihar" pneumatic rifle, and a shotgun with a bayonet attached. I found plenty of other weapons off course.. They drop from virtually any human corpse, but those are all junk - good for refilling ammo.

On the other hand, finding semi unique weapons such as the bayonetted shotgun is not essential. Because I am a crazy hoarder in any game I play, I was able to save enough for a stealth suit, silenced/scoped rifle/revolver, and that scoped weapon.. I forgot what the name is.. It was called a "Vintar" in STALKER. Basically I am happily owning the human enemies now, and they can barely ever return fire.

Oh and another thing I love in Metro 2033 is that the grenades actually work and feel like grenades, unlike most FPS out there... When I throw a grenade the effect is truly devastating, especially when enemies are caught within the immediate blast radius. But even if they are somewhat further, they have little chances, since even if they survive the blast, they remain disoriented for a few seconds which allows me to jump from cover and fill them up with lead. ; )

I LOVE how someone like you can be so judgmental not even knowing the whole story. I only used the trainer for infinite gas mask as I was unable to pick up gas masks/canisters...no matter what I did...only way Im able to get a new gas mask is if mine cracks and breaks...and this was all BEFORE the trainer...plus, honestly, its a fucking free country...I can play any game I want any way I want. Im sure you do lots of things that I would consider wrong...um...like putting people down...

Odd, I had the same gas mask problem. I had to restart the level I was working on (not a big deal, click load instead of continue and you won't have to redo much)

Also note that you hold G to remove your gas mask but just press G to swap canisters.

I find that I can pick up SOME canisters. It's a bit unclear to me. I want a massive canister stockpile, dammit.

I actually like it a lot, just wish the filter thing wasn't such of a problem. It would be fun to do a full playthrough with a gas mask on.

My gasmask was filled with condensation the second I put it back on when playing last night. Must have to leave it off for a while to get the steam to clear?

ROFL... I knew you'd say something like that. I didn't put you down. I put down what you are doing.

As for the gas masks, you gotta HOLD "e" until you pick it up. Same for all other weapons. Besides, not being able to pick up things in a game is not an excuse to use a trainer. when things like that happen to me, I go on the internet, and I read, and I do research until I find a solution to my problem, and a trainer is not a solution.

This may sound very geeky/nerdy/dorky but when people use trainers, it is like they don't have respect for the game. To me it's the same thing as when people lease cars, they treat them like crap. Don't warm up engine during cold weather, don't wash the car, abuse it, etc... It like the person is so spoiled, that he knows he will get another car/game soon, so why have any respect when you'll be moving on to something new?

I have a friend like this.. He always cheats, and uses hacks and trainers, because he says: "I gotta get through this game FAST" because I have another game waiting to be played.. or I gotta work.. or I gotta study.. or whatever... I always tell him: Well, don't play then, if you are in a hurry. ; ) But off course who the fuck am I to tell him or you what to do, eh?

Wow, that's a kickass feature if implemented properly. Hope it isn't just a bug that made it through.

So far the game doesn't seem that buggy to me, just a little bit clunky and lacking a little more gameplay content, complexity, and polish. Comes close to being one of the top 5 releases within the past year or two though, imo.

wow...

seriously there is nothing wrong with using a trainer.

its called a trainer for a reason, to train you to play the game better by ignoring a variable which is normally required.

Trainers can save you a ton of a time.. Maybe we have a short deadline for the game and not a open timeline.

For me i personally love trainers, i will always use them, because i dont want to sit there forever, when i can do it in 1/10th the time required with a trainer.

Single player for me is always cheating... multiplayer, only if i want to get ban'd. (which means never)

Trainers are there so people can play a game however the hell they want. It boggles the mind why you would get annoyed over someone using a trainer in a single player game. Caring about other players cheating only makes sense in a multiplayer setting.

Mebbe try easy mode trainers, are for 8 year olds with fat sausage hands who tend to mash keyboards blindly.
