And to think Microsoft pay 2 billions for the rights to this game is mind-blowing. I'm either not a gamer or so out of touch with what gamer nowadays enjoy.

Still don't even know why people enjoy Clash of Clans.

They get rights to minecraft 2 (which will very well be a cash cow and probably Pay2Play type thing) and all that merch!

I got sick of it a long time ago. It takes forever to build up the resources for making uber equipment so you can go kill the big bad dude.

And thats pretty much all the game has in terms of plot.

I started GRAV recently. Its not finished but it has plenty to do. I think people are gonna start going for stuff like that, clans, conflict, taking territory. Realm of Kings is another one. We've also got plenty of zombie games along that line like H1Z1 and Miscreated and some others.

Lol at the comments about how it looks. It's a style, like cell shading. It's also playable on almost anything so the sales are through the roof.

As if those of us here didn't grow up with 8-bit games and now we're "too good" for games that aren't photo realistic. I still play NES and SNES games as well, so Minecraft's looks are fine to me. It's fun.

I also grew up with 8 track tapes, encyclopedias, and corded phones, and I dont want to go back to any of those either. So pffft!

I didn't enjoy 8 tracks, encyclopedias, or corded phones nor do I think of them fondly in a nostalgic way.

Mario RPG on the other hand...

Minecraft is fun with the right crew of people. I bored of it by myself years ago when I had done everything I could with it. Seriously, it's like digital legos, and who doesn't like legos?

If you don't like the default look you can always change to a high resolution texture pack (assuming you aren't playing the portable or console versions).

I remember when you had to mod minecraft manually with winRAR. It took at least 6 hours of straight tinkering just to get the mods you wanted to work together. Not to mention just finding all the versions of the mods that are compatible with the version of minecraft you wanted to use.

what minecraft 2 needs:

1. proper mod support, as said here ^

2. higher altitude / depth than 128 blocks. (i mean ... reeally higher. think 1024 blocks down) something to rival terraria, which does depth much better.

3. more aggressive / intelligent mobs.

3b. a harder "survival" game system.

4. a proper endgame.

5. (one can only wish) volumetric liquids.

they should take inspiration from terraria, industrialcraft, terrafirma/BTW, aether, all the various DayZ clones, and roguelikes in general.

I'm not sure about Minecraft Pocket Edition, or the new Windows 10 edition of Minecraft (basically the same thing, I believe), but vanilla Minecraft has had a build height of 256 blocks for quite some time now.
