Am I the only one here that spends more than $2 for a loaf of bread?

no, you are not the only one.

i dont et white bread... ever... so most of the bread i eat is over $3.00 per loaf.

all natural peanut butter on fresh whole grain loaf is one of my all time fave foods, so i would pay ... whatever... for decent bread.

I hate buying bread. The expensive bread doesn't move through the store fast enough for the bakeries to stock it every day, so most of the times it is stale on the shelves. Your timing has to be right to get fresh bread. By the time I've gone down the bread isle in a supermarket, most of the loaves have been well fondled.

I tend to buy the cheapest bread I can find, because it is always the freshest.

I can give ya a loaf for a dollar cheaper! it just may not be the loaf you want....

I spend usually 1.99 or so on my bread. Its the most important part of a sandwich. Of course, if you looked at my heavy a55, you would know why i am the way i am.

If you shop at Wal Mart(or any other chain that has bagged bread) and you dont buy their own labled bread you are doing yourself a disservice. For the most part they are selling you the same bread,be it white or wheat, for .88 - 1.20 that the big companies sell for 2 bucks and up. The supermarkets have the big bread makers bring in the exact same product in the store's labled bag. I see it every day because I am a food vendor and I watch the bread guys carry in tray after tray of private lable bread stacked on top of their comapny bread. Now if you eat the whole grain stuff and the like, then you will wind up paying a good bit more. If you ask someone in your local store if they can tell you who does their private lable bread, you can save a few bucks.

I know that at Wal Mart, each store actually contracts their bread with a company on an individual basis, while a store like Publix(southern chain) has the same company bring in bread to every store. Kroger makes their own private lable bread(at least here in ATL)

I stick with the Wal Mart white or wheat. At less than a dollar, you cant go wrong.

I buy cheap stuff because I use it for toast in beans/egg/cheese on toast, never eat it as-is.
Sandwiches I do with part-baked bread.

I like my potato bread... and it's over $2 a loaf... and it's not even a big loaf either. Potato bread seems to stay softer longer too..

We usually have Stroehmann wheat or Nickles Italian.
Both are just under two bucks.
There's Schwebel's Potato bread out there now, it's not bad tasting but it acts stale from the first slice.
We're not big on bread, but the chickens like to eat it when it gets bad. :)

I used to buy bread that was 2.99 to 3.29 per loaf.

Then we started going though 3 loafs a week, and we hit a budget crunch at the same time... so we started buying the cheaper brands.

Not as good, but still holds the sandwhich contents in. :)

Hopefully we be able to go back to the oringinal brand at some point.
