No. Others are annoyed as well, but some are not. It's how things go though and I don't think it's going to change.

I think something more frustrating is if a set back doesn't yeild anything good. For instance if Vista gets set back to the summer of 07 and then it hits and sucks big time. Happened with Halo 2 and will probably continue to happen more than any hardware delay. Personally I think that's a bigger issue. BF2 still isn't complete and is constantly getting patched.

The term "paper launch" usually refers to a product launch that while availability may exist, it is in extremely low quantities. The current situation is a completely different thing.

The problem is NOT "we are launching this product today but it will be available tomorrow/next week", this is a completely acceptable practice in businesses!

The problem IS when a company fails to meet its own deadline, as in the date the company itself has publicly announced (which btw both ATI and NVIDIA are guilty as hell).

That's just annoying, and I wouldn't mind if they said "preview" or that they're delaying the launch to mid-september. I'd say ok, fine with me.

Yeah, I know what you mean... Last night, I was at the grocery store and I overheard another woman lie to her husband over some ice cream she put in the cart. She said she put it in while he was looking for cat littler in isle 5, but he said it couldn't have been because she said she was going to get ice cream before that, in the future... I tell you, that entire situation pissed me off. I lost sleep over that whole thing... I mean, how could she have lied to him about that? How? What is wrong with people today? Gosh, now I am so upset I am going to create a thread about that on betty crocker's forums.

??? Both have them. I wouldn't want to glorify one company when it itself has been subject to the same thing.

Does it really even matter though? There isn't anything we can do about it and complaining about it won't make ATI change their mind. Availability was going to be short, hence why they have moved back the date of actual availability. If the product is out for retail (meaning the manufacturer has released it for sale), but not present in the retail market, it is a paper launch. (Or rather a screen launch). Sure, a paper launch gives a preview, but that doesn't rule out the fact that it is one or the other. When a product is not a tangible option of purchase yet it has been released for public sale I don't care what people call it, it is a concentrated introduction to a product that only benefits a minority of people (granted all of us enthusiasts are a minority) and serves only to give us its immediate existence on a screen for a short childhood. Once you can buy the product, we are no longer dealing with a picture, we're dealing with a real buying option that is as present as any other video card on the retail shelves.

I guess the grey area for this thread is those who view the "Auto-Notify" option as the same as a "Buy "option whereas others see the Auto-Notify as official planning that relates your e-mail to the retail marketer.

Situation one: "Launch will be in mid-september."
Update: "Scratch that. Launch will be 8/23, with retail availability in mid-September."

In other words, we get NDA lift and info 2-3 weeks earlier than otherwise. Situation 2 is preferable to situation 1. The point of this thread is to complain that situation 1 was preferable. Only a total shill or flameboy could possibly have anything to complain about. It's a case of under-promise. As long as cards are available a few days or weeks before they say they will be, everyone's happy.

It's perfect, ATI's new card you can't get, matches Intel's E6600 which you also can't get either. Then all you need is Vista which still isn't ready yet, and you're set.

It was "launch will be 8/23" then it was "Scratch that. Launch will be 8/23, with retail availability in mid-Sept" Which is why this thread is here in the first place. It was leaked that we would see this card in Aug and now we have to wait untill Sep. Was it ATI's fault that that info was leaked? No, but it doesn't change the fact that there where people expecting the card for sell in Aug that now have to wait a month. That's even assuming they will be able to get the card for msrp in Sep. I expect there to be big mark ups and availablity issues just like conroe.

The x1900 wasn't a refresh it had a different core architecture i.e. 48 pixel shaders. People just thought it was because it competed with Nvidia's refresh the 7900 which wasn't anything but the same core shrunk and speed bumped.

i also am annoyed at pricing, i hate claims of such n such a price only when things finally do launch they are much more expensive. wether its just price gouging or just lies. Ati do have a bit of a history of being abit "optimistic" with prices

Still, the competing NVIDIA cards are also quite good, and they are perhaps stronger competitors thanks to their newer technology and excellent performance. ATI's fake price cuts sought to avoid head-to-head comparisons of cards in the same class, and that is a telling fact.

of course wether or not any of that is actually truth who knows and its from a fairly long time ago, i certainly dont know if its correct. could of been a big mis-understanding, and im sure nv are'nt completely innocent either

Well it's not cut and dry like that. The first info we got said that they would launch with availability i.e. the same day we get reviews. Then we got info saying ATI was pushing the availability back to mid-sept and that is where the rub is.

It's intereesting that you say feel free to complain about paper lanching, but then say to stfu untill sept 14? What do you think will be happening between Aug 23 and Sept 14? Thats right a paper launch, it may not be the many month paper launch we are used to seeing, but it is a paper launch none the less.
