I am glad you didn't say star trek/wars/gate, because then we might have a problem.

I was about to say WTF????, nothing special????
But then I checked your profile and saw you weren't born until 1980, which means you probably didn't see it until 1990 or so. By that time, it was nothing special.

But to appreciate it, you have to realize what it was like when it was released in 1978. It went far above and beyond any previous sci-fi movie. The special effects were groundbreaking at the time.

Star Wars is now a part of the American culture. Star Trek is for nerds. Only the things that I like and approve of are valid. That is all.

The Next Generation is okay. Star Wars is okay.
Star Trek and other spinoffs are marginal.

its not a stargate, emory....its a fargate, get it? it goes far. do you wanna get sued?

Agree. Wasn't it adapted from some story about pirates in the 1700s?

The inspiration for the original Star Wars is a combination of WWII dogfight footage and Akira Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress.

I don't remember when the first time I watched it was ... perhaps i used the wrong words ... It was a pioneering film for its time, and a decent movie all around ... but I would not place it in my top 50.

I am a Star Wars geek as I have read all of the post Clone War books (except the jr. jedi series of course). They are good, fun books that take maybe 2 days to read. But they have the unfortunate side affect of making you hate Lucas. It wasn't bad enough that he decided to ignore the history that was written in the novels, now he is getting authors to write novels to incorporate his crappy movies. Tatooine Ghost is prime example of this.

I've never seen an episode of either nor have I seen any of the LOTR stuff. I also don't plan on seeing any of them.
