gaidensensei I believe

permabanned too? whoa

Was this like a one strike ur out kinda deal? I don't know him particularly well like GA & mosh but unlike those 2, I don't know of any instances where he was walking on thin ice. A bit harsh considering... it's kinda borderline entrapment.

Err... that was nick's side of the story as relayed to him by mosh (presumably).

And remember that Mosh has a vested interest in presenting a story that shows her in the best light. If nick is accurately reporting what he has been told, then let's just say Mosh's nose should be very, very long by now.

And nick just went off earlier today on a non-admin mod who had absolutely nothing to do with any of the stuff from this thread (but nick somehow thinks he did) and sent him several unbelievably abusive and profane PMs. So he was going to get vacationed for those PMs without anything he posted here.

Nobody was banned for looking at the mod forums. We're sorry they were open for a bit and while we wish folks hadn't gone poking around, we do understand the urge to do so. Nobody was banned for "thinking" about doing something (that's just one of those tidbits that should cause a jump in nose length.)

Olds said "esquared is a stand up guy. I trust his word." The rest of you should as well.

I don't remember gaiden being a troublemaker.

Mosh is going to tell one side of the story - HER's. Potentially omitting the critical details; which are the ones that ended up getting her suspended.

Nick can only regurgitated what Mosh tells him.

Three things happened.
1) By accident during a test; the Moderator restricted areas were left open.
2) GA discovered such
3) GA worked with Mosh to capture and disseminate that information from restricted areas.

#1) Was our (Moderators) fault - We were alerted that this issue had happened and then went and closed it. No fault to the members

#2) GA nosed around while the breach was open. Most people are curious - had he left well enough alone at that point, the issue would have been a minor scolding for going where he should not have; as others indicated - looking inside the bank vault to see if it looks like they show in the movies.

#3) GA with Mosh "removed" information for the restricted area and started to distribute such. This information was verified by PM logs. This is equivalent to stealing money from the vault and/or mapping out the security system to a vault for a repeat breakin. - They knew what they were doing was wrong. NOT ACCEPTABLE

This really isn't about the petty "dissemination of information." What's really being hidden here are the thoughts of a raving lunatic in their absolutely fanatical dossier-keeping (admitted themself) character-assassinating way.

It's not the fact that "the word is out" (as if it hadn't been already), but more of the content of what's being shared.

That's the real issue.

I just got done telling everyone that I would leave the thread open but to knock off the tin foil hat BS and the mod callouts

Apparently you came to the picnic without a sandwich.

I am going to send to off so you can buy one and you can come back later and play with us.

Again, for the record, the reason for the bans was dissemination of info from the moderation area. That was the ONLY reason. Nik is blowing smoke up your asses as usual. Making statement, without fact.

This dossiers crap is getting ridiculous. It doesn't exist, never has..

You and a few others are becoming paranoid and delusional over this. Your contining mod callouts and rants are getting old

While I'm on the side of the Mod's at this point (I was a fan of Mosh but not GA, for the record), I thought the bolded was stated as incorrect earlier in this thread. Is the method USED incorrect, or is it incorrect that the Mod's can peruse PM's?

I'm fine with them doing so, but I'd like to think there wouldn't be this confusion on the subject. It is interesting that Mosh had her account issue so recently prior to ban. If I all of a sudden see my password changed without notification from the Mods, could it still be a Mod performing the action? I'd like to think I'd be notified at minimum.

I agree with 1 & 2 and to an extent 3. I saw GAs initial screen shot and he was blatantly and without any consideration harvesting what he could knowing he had a limited window of opportunity so I won't contest his ban. I don't know about mosh or gaiden so I can only speculate but if it had been me, I may have been tempted to take a screenshot of a thread or two as well without considering the ramifications and had someone asked me for it, I may have very well provided it as well.

The thing is that while the bank analogy may be good, it is just an analogy. This is the internet, it's just not the same thing. Leaving a subforum open by mistake is simply not the same as leaving a bank vault door open.

They have backups. If they really wanted to read your PMs without your knowledge, they can pull it up from a backup. Not saying that's how it may work now, just that they can do it discretely.

I think it's your duty to explain what is logged when we send PRIVATE messages.

It is Anandtech's responsibility that what takes place via PM's is kosher. If the site all of a sudden became known for finding a pot dealer because trades kept taking place via PM, they could become responsible for facilitating such actions.

No, the registration agreement absolves the site owner of account holder actions.

Good job mods, half the dicks above are those that also use 'this is not a democracy'.

These are the types like in pet supermarket yesterday that dumped the entire baskets of free samples in their bags.

People play ignorance to much time to kick them in the ass to remind them, we all know they aren't that stupid.
