I'm paying $15 for them to drive the car through the washer and they wipe it and it costs $15.

Do I have to pay them tip?

They are doing a crappy job for minimum wage. I always give them a couple of bucks.

Yes, they are the only ones that actually work. I would tip $3 or more depending on the job.

(I am a good tipper, tip at least $2 just for my car at free valet)

I"m interested as well - I'm a former waiter and I always tip restaraunt folks, the barber, etc...fairly well.

But something bugs me about tipping the car wash guys...doesn't seem right for some reason. Them and the deli folks with a tip jar on the counter. I mean you made me a friggen sammich for $5, it's not personal service.

the car wash I go to costs $13 for a regular wash (F-150 w/ snug top shell). I usually walk around it and inspect it and have them clean something if they forgot it, then I tip $2.00. that's all, I'm not payin much extra for an already expensive wash. I could pay the neighbor kid $5 to do a half a$$ job if I wanted a cheap wash.

It seems like anybody and everybody wants to get in on tipping, regardless if it is appropriate or not.

I just wash it myself... I figure it would take me the same amount of time to make the money to pay for the car wash, so might as well do it myself.

Only takes me 10-15 mins to wash my truck, including cleaning rims + armorall on tires. I can use the money I saved for myself :)

You don't have to tip anyone for anything, but if they do a good job, you should.

Same here but I drive myself through the "brushless" automated car wash because I'm L A Z Y.

But if someone were to take the time to wash my car and did a good job, I might consider tipping.
