Technically, open source software should be free.
Realistically, if you want powerful software that compares to MS in ease of use, there has to be a revenue stream. And since I'm making money from it, ethically, $60US is acceptable.

But then they're a French company. Am I going to get labeled unpatroitic for supporting open source software from a french company? 😀

Yea, I considered the implications of the geekified version of small-dick syndrome

But I haven't had luck with making Linux work fully with Samba and getting every single piece of hardware that is supposed to work actually working flawlessly. But this was all 1+ year ago. Maybe I will have better luck this time.

The choices were Gentoo, Debian and Mandrake. The only thing holding me back was that Mandrake uses those damn RPMs that makes package handling suck, and emerge/apt-get were superior in every way.

But then I read about urpmi and it was most of what I wanted. I stand by my decision.
