Title says it all. Building a system for a buddy of mine (Epox 8KHA+, AthlonXP1800), Brand new Segate BarracudaIV 60Gig. I get to the setup in Win2k, and there's no option to format using Fat32, I deleted the Partition, and tried again. Then I used a Win98 Bootable CD I have, and F-Disked, and formatted (Fat32), I put the Win2k CD back in, reboot, and guess what? It says "Unsupported File System" then I get back to the same option screen to format the partition using NTFS.
I know it's late, and I thought I was overlooking something obvious. Is there a command line option to force a FAT32 Partition?? or should I go to bed, sleep on it, and wait for it to come to me in the AM? It's gotta be something simple.....
BTW it's Win2k Pro, Retail (1-2 CPU).

Sorry forgot to add that, it's a 60 gig (single partition). I may also add I have Win2k Pro on one of my machines, (Same Drive too) and have an 80GB Partition, and no problems.... I just though about going to the seagate drive and downloading their Partitioning software, but there shouldn't be a limitation on drive size in the BIOS. Like I said I have the EXACT same Rig (right down to the Network Card :p) and don't have a problem w/2 80 Gig Drives partitioned in Fat32 (1 Single 80GB Partition on C: and 2 40 gig Partitions D: and E:). Tried all of the obvious (BIOS Settings) Swapped RAM, and even tried a different Video Card. I'm starting Barebones (As I always do), and all peripherals are disabled in the BIOS. The BIOS sees the correct drive size, and operating modes (UDMA5/ATA-100).

W2K won't format a partition larger than 32 gig for Fat32. It will use it if it already exists but it won't do the format for you. If the Fdisk and format from the Win98 boot disk went like it should, W2K should suggest that you convert it to NTFS but it should let you use it. I'd probably try the Win98 fdisk/format again.

Yep, I forgot about that. I re-partitioned it again. I think something just went wrong the first time (weird). takes FOREVER!! I hate formatting big drives. Like I said, I need some sleep. Good thing I did all the Physical assembling earlier today, or else I'd probally have 'Smoke Flavored' XP Processor! :p I feel like a Microidiot!

Matt,
Why do you even bother to post here? You're showing that you just don't get it.
I remember when you tried to stuff your sweet little Pentium 233MX in that Socket 370 MB. Didn't you learn from that experience? Why do you persist in giving "Geekdom" a bad name?
Have you figured out yet that the very wide floppy drive on your 386 "killer rig", won't accept 1.44mb floppies?

Matt, Matt, Matt... Blain walks away shaking his head :p

Went with Fat32 for a Dual Boot. It's for a friend, and his Printer and Digital Camera aren't officially win2k compatible yet, and he wants to run Logic Audio for small recording (Win2k/XP Version isn't out yet) It dosen't have to be a secure file system either, he's not that far along yet. Just gonna use 98 to download pics from his camera, and do some minor audio stuff. Emagic reccomends using Fat32 as of right now, and won't even see an NTFS Partition. I can't wait for the 2k version to come out! It's a much more stable, and faster OS. Audio hasn't quite caught on yet, but it's getting there!

Oops :Q How embarrasing... A true geek like myself making a mistake like that! :Q CGA was actually 2 colors at a max resolution of 640 by 200! Even EGA was only capable of 16 Colors (from a pallate of 64) and I think 640 x 350 was the Max in graphics mode. Even 'true' or the original VGA standard Adapters only supported 16 Colors at 640x480 (from a pallete of 262,144 colors) and used 6 bits, and 256 Colors in 320x200! Woohoo.... :frown:
