Am I stuck wih vista?

so I bought this OEM machine from Circiut City the other day. I thought that I would be able to wipe out vista and install XP... I cant find a network driver for XP anywhere.
The machine is an HP A6152n, has anybody here had this issue? If any of you guys can help it sure would be appreciated

it seems sluggish, for what this new machine has in it I thought it would be much faster than it is.
another thing, I got a 150gig raptor that I want my OS to be installed on but I dont have an OEM install disk for vista to install it on my raptor, I do have an XP installation disk just waitng to go.

That machine should fly with Vista...Vista should be faster than XP on that hardware. Did you just buy it? I suggest you give it a few days...Vista is very aggresive with SuperFetch and the indexing and will thrash the HDD a lot the first few days until it's done indexing. Vista should be able to make use of that hardware much better than XP. Believe me; I have a lesser machine and Vista flies on it; I can't even use XP anymore because it feels so clunky 🙂

If it's still sluggish after that it's probably due to all the craplets HP crams into those machines. I'd try uninstalling those...or maybe asking HP for a Vista DVD...some OEM ask for a small fee ($10 or so) to mail you the physical media.

motherboard specs for your HP I think you could simply install the Intel chipset drivers and that would get the network driver installed for you. If your WinXP disc is old, then make sure to take precautions when installing (go halfway down page to first large picture) so you don't get pwned by worms.

Also, yeah, I would give Vista a chance, and make sure to get your Vista DVD like Noema said.

Thanks for the help fellas, I guess I will give it some time, vista does like nice anyway.

You could always disable Aero and then set the thing to be like Windows 2000 (disabling many of the effects) by doing:

Start > Settings > Control Panel > Classic View > System > advanced system settings > performance settings > adjust for best performance

Why should he do that, Schadenfroh? His GTX is is more that capable of dealing with Aero in a very fast, efficient manner. OP, you might want to look into how having 3gig on a 32bit OS might be affecting performance. When I tried inserting 2x512m to compliment the 2 gig I already had, my MB insisted on dropping from DDR433 to DDR333. There may be a way for me to overcome this, I just haven't found it yet.
