I couldn't believe it. I was over by a nearby mall, when I saw this thing coming out of the corner of my eye. It was dark already, but there was no mistaking the body of this car. It was a freaking Ferrari 250 GTO. You should've seen me dodge cars to try and catch up to this thing to get a better look. I got in back of it and rolled down my window to listen to it. The thing sure sounded like a Ferrari.
What I can't believe is that this is November 20th in the Chicago area and someone is just casually driving something like this around a mall. This can't be a real Ferrari GTO. Can it? I had heard that there were only 40 or so of these things ever made and they go for millions. I just can't see it. I certainly wouldn't drive anything like that anywhere near winter and I think I'd have a few armed guys following me to protect it.
This has got to be a kit car.. Has anyone seen or heard of a Ferrari 250 GTO kit car? I can't imagine someone getting a kit car to sound like a Ferrari though. This thing sounded just like a Ferrari.
Anyway.. I'm babbling. I think I'm still in shock over this. This is close to how I felt when I saw an original unrestored Porsche 550 Spyder in person. This was at a Porsche Concours show though in the middle of the summer, not nearly winter in the Chicago area.
For those of you that don't know what a Ferrari GTO is, here's a link with some pix..
