Am I Screwed??

i was installing my swiftech mc462 on my epox 8k7a just a few minutes ago. i installed all the motherboard spacers for the heatsink and i was screwing in the spring loaded screws. on my final turn of the screw i heard a slight crack. didnt think much of it but apon examining my mobo one of those really tiny "connector pin things" had broken off... if you are looking at the board with the socket to the upper left it is right next to the mobo hole on the top left of the socket. the pin # is "095". is this totally gonna mess up my motherboard? what should i do?

When U say "pin" do you mean a pin like on a fan connector? Is it a pin off a set of jumpers? If you don't need to use that jumper, than no problem.

Are you sure you didn't break a mobo trace? (The little metal "lines" that connect everything) Make sure. Let us know and we'll try to help U.

I'm not familiar with the board, but I know you can buy a conductive ink pen, maybe you can fix the problem?

conductive pens cost around $12 generally...you could get it from your local radio shack...but you should call first because they usually don't stock too many of those.

OK, traces aren't numbered. The thing you broke, does it physically "stick out/up" off the board? Is it about the size of a grain of rice (or a little smaller?) That is a resistor...you might be screwed. Um, is it broke clean off, or hanging on by one side/wire?

is that what i want though? its one of those little tiny "pins" that just stick out of the mobo a little bit and it has a number on it. when i think of a trace i think of the conductive copper color lines that are all over the place.

well, if its screwed return it to the place you ordered it from. tell them that the motherboard didnt work when you recicved it and theyll send you a new one. maybe have them advance replace one for ya with CC number so you can get one in before you even send the old one out. i cut a trace once on my abit and had to rma it to the online place i ordered it from, and they sent me a new one pronto!

well sending it back is really the last thing i wanna do. i guess ill put everything together and see what happens. any other suggestions are greatly welcome as i am rather pissed right now and need a solution.

Glad to hear that you are so proud of decieving and lying to a company.😕

Think its time to suck it up and turn it on. Thats the only way your gonna find out if you screwed it up. If it doesn't lock up or anything your fine. Your really at low risk of messing anything else up by doing this. If you screwed it up then it wont work. 🙂

>if it is numbered it is some kind of component. is it a diode. what does it look like?

Yeah, you might be able to find someone to solder it back on. I knocked of a surface mount capacitor on my dual slot-1 Tyan S1837-uang (freakin' expensive board!) and had a friend solder it back on. Very carefully.
