Am I screwed?

Major problem. I took a bunch of pictures for NYE with my Pentax Optio S40. Today, when I was looking through the pictures, the screen said "Cannot display the image or sound." I took out the memory card, placed it into my pc and tried to extract the pictures, but they are not there. When I click properties on the memory card, it shows that the card is full (232MB of used space), but my pics are not there. Is there anything I can do? Or is there any other means by which to get that data off? Or will it be corrupted? I'm extremely depressed in losing the photos with all of my friends. Thanks in advance.

Photo rescue worked for me and found the pics, however its $30. any free alternative? I really don't want to pay $30 for a program I will use once.

If your pics aren't worth $30, they must not be very important.

Well, it was just for a drunken new years eve weekend, but there are quite the cuties on the photos.

good point.

for a program this useful, $30 is worth it.

when I took pictures during my trip, i move them all to my laptop and send copies to work just incase my laptop blows up. i try to do that everyday during my vacation.

We might pitch in if you share :camera:'s - if they are scantily clothed enough.

haha. thanks, but you guys do a lot for me here. If I buy the program, I'll post the pics.

Smart Recovery 4.3 (freeware). 😉 6.2 mb, slow download.
Tried this program on my 256mb CF, recovered all the pictures I deleted (after copying). Program is slow, but works. You'l have to tell what file type (ex. * bmp, *jpg) you wnat recovered from the media. Suprisingly recovered files retain the date picture taken, etc. All you have to do is rename the files.

Wait, so did you already pay $30? Because you said it worked and found the pics but it's $30 and then you go and say that you don't want to pay $30 for a one time use. So you used it already, so you already paid $30 right?

Tried that trial program. Progam of course works, but you won't be able to recover anything. All its says at the end of program run, is that it found a certain number of pictures/data. No information of what they are or how they look like. To recover the pictures/data you'll have to buy it for $30.

The freeware I posted earlier works just as good as the $30 one. Which do you think I'm using? 😉

Ah i get it, one of those programs where it'll "do the work" and say it found something but you gotta pay $$$.

I wonder if it REALLY did find something or if it's just stringing you along to fork over $30.
