Just got a Samsung 940b 19" flat panel LCD. I want to use the DVI link. Its DVI link is a 25 pin DVD-D dual link female connector. PIC. My Radeon 9700 Pro is a 29 pin DVI-I Dual link connector. PIC

Really the only difference is that on the Samsung flat panel DVI connector, where the horizontal 'slot' on the connector on the right side, there are no 4 extra sockets like on my Radeon 9700 card.

Did I just blow $350 for nothing? I thought all DVI cables had the same number of pins. Can I just buy a DVD-D dual link cable -25 pins- and connect it to the Radeon even though it won't have all 29 pins connected on the Radeon.

Should I just jump off the roof now! ;-)

Those four extra pins on the video card are for analog, IIRC. You can use a DVI-D cable (25-pin) to connect the monitor to the video card and it should work.

DVI-I ==> is DVI-D[igital] + DVI-A[nalog]

i went through a similar episode when i installed an X850XT.

good to know about bluejeanscable.com.

i've been using rogers systems.com for about 8 years. they're good too for these kinds of adapters.

i still don't understand the difference between the different DVI cables BUT - everything's working, knock on wood, for now.

Well just called Best Buy and all they have is the 19 pin DVI-D single link cables.

Will this work on my 25 pin LCD DVI-D dual link connection? Will it degrade the video quality if I get one of thse instead of a 25 pin DVI-D dual link cable?

HELP!!

Listen to GhostDoggy, get a regular DVI-D cable, and just plug the damned thing in. Your 9700 has more holes than needed - so it simply won't use them.

And none of that is dual link DVI.
