Am i really going to benefit from an Audigy 2?

My current sound is an onboard AD1980 6-Channel Audio setup with Altec lansing 251 5.1 speakers. I was thinking about purchasing something like an Audigy 2 value card but i wonder if this would make any difference whatsoever with these speakers. Should i save the $75 for something else or would one of these really help my sound system?

If you have astute ears and good speakers yes, but like n3wb says, without good speakers a sound card doesn't mean crap -- the same holds true vice versa but to less of a degree.

I personally own those speakers now that I re-read what you said and I can hear a difference between onboard / cheap sound card and my SB Live! 5.1

I wont buy an Audigy after the MP3+ ended up on my wall, haven't tried and Audigy 2 though.

perry404, do a search, there are about 30 posts on this exact topic...

i dont mean to be rude, but youll also get more info that way,,,

Yeah, there definately IS a noticible difference between Live and onboard (I have live myself). IMO, go for a different sound card. Creative Labs have HUGE latency problems. Not so much on the Live, but on the Audigy (Z-2S especially).

I can tell a big differance.

I'd get an Audigy 2 ZS or M-Audio Revo.

Stay away from the Audigy 2 Value or Audigy 1.

Also stay away from the Audigy Live.

if your looking to upgrade, like I said before, look at the Audigy 2 ZS and M-Audio Revo 7.1 sound cards.

People who say they cant tell a differance from the Live and onboard are saying that because the Live is shit.

Would it make sense for me to use Klipsch Promedia 5.1 Ultras on on board or a cheapo SB live?

ok my take on it, i have an Audigy 2 Platinum soundcard with the live drive. and when i compaired it to my onboard audio i could definatly tell a big big difference! i also like having a seperate card so it doesnt tax the CPU like other things do so well.. thats my opinion on it tho
