I bought a CPU off a user in another forums (not Anandtech). It's a a64 3500+ Venice...not that it matters in this story but with all us geeks around, I'm sure some were curious.
Anyways, we communicated on Tuesday at which we agreed to a price. Only problem was:
1. He doesn't take Paypal
2. He has no Heat
3. He couldn't take a pic of the CPU. Basically gave a verbal that it wouldn't be DOA and had no damage.
Sure, the warning signs were going off in my head - SCAM ALERT!!. Anyways, going against my better judgement, I went ahead with the trade, with the agreement that we would cross-ship. I know I'm going to get flamed for doing this trade...so don't start! 🙂
I sent out a USPS Money Order via Priority mail and as Certified Mail 1/4 (yesterday). That way I had proof that someone was handed the envelope and it would get there reasonably soon. It was agreed he would do the same. Unfortunately, due to work commitments, I wasn't able to get to the post office until 3PM MST. He's in OH, so it's 5PM over there. Since it was so late, it's a little unreasonable to expect him to ship that same day seeing how late I gave him my USPS Certified mail #.
Anyways, fast forward to this evening. I haven't heard from him yet at all since he communicated last night he would send it tomorrow (which is today now). He's logged on twice to the forum I bought it from. I sent a PM to him this morning before his first login asking for a tracking #. I still haven't heard back yet. (it's 9:30PM EST now)
I just sent him a PM saying I'd put a stop on the MO at the end of the day tomorrow if he doesn't send a tracking number. Seeing that it's Priority Mail that my MO is sent by, I figure it's a 2-3 business day trip out to OH. The MO should get there tomorrow or Saturday and I want to put a stop on it before he gets the MO if he doesn't give me the tracking number by then.
Do you think this is unreasonable? I figure the whole point of cross shipping is that we BOTH ship at the same time. I've given him lee-way with me sending my MO at the end of the day, and if he's got time to log into the forums, he's got time to communicate - even if it is to tell me that it's delayed because of some emergency. Should I wait longer? If he's scamming me, I don't want to give him the opportunity to cash the MO.
So...Cliffs Notes:
*Bought CPU off someone who is not an established trader
*Said we'd cross ship
*I sent out my MO on Tuesday - he still hasn't sent a tracking number
*Should I put a stop on the money order tomorrow night?
UPDATE: After the nasty PM, he replied (how convenient). He said he shipped it out today Priority Mail (so no tracking number). I kinda gave him crap about not giving me a tracking number and asked him to send me a scan of the receipt. His response:
Look its coming ok, please just let it get there in a couple of days and if not then let me know. Do what you need to do if you feel it necessary but it is on its way.
I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. If it's not here the morning after it shows up as sent on USPS, I'm cancelling the MO...
