Am I Out of Luck with Shuttle SFF?

I have been waiting and waiting for a new Shuttle (AMD Based) system to come out that uses the Case Style that I have wanted.

I am guessing its not going to happen now. I dont want a slide out CD-Tray, I dont wanted covered USB, Audio, Etc Slots as this just leaves a door folded out all the time. I really honestly love the look of the above case, but considering I cant seem to find a AMD based one with PCI Express I am starting to think I am just out of luck.

So my choices are, go intel and spend more money and lose more performance, or go with one I dont like the looks of as much. :(

Hmm maybe the Q-Pack is not looking so bad, I just wish I could see a side by side with a Shuttle SFF to see how much of a increase it would be.

I don't think Shuttle is going to revert back to the G2 design. It is a shame too since the G2 case is still a "fan favorite" for most of the Shuttle owners out there. Your closest bet is a G5 case ( the one with the silver button area in the center and stealth bays ) and a little creative modding to fit a G2 face on it. The eBay Shuttle store sells the PF61B (black) and PF61S (silver) for $52 shipped. I doubt they will just snap on but you could e-mail Shuttle and ask them.

I don't have anything against AMD but Shuttle's Intel systems are more stable than their AMD counterparts. Just go to SFFtech and read all the rants about the SN20, SN25, etc. You'll be hard-pressed to find a lot of rants for their SB/ST/SD series.

With those 50% reductions of the Intel dual-core line coming in the next two weeks, Intel might again be a wise choice when it comes to price/performance, esp. with Conroe coming this fall. I owned an A64 but dumped it because of the poor performance when running multiple applications. As far as I'm concerned, being able to encode Divx, while playing mp3s, while surfing the net without hiccups on a 3.2 GHz CPU outweighs the 3% loss while gaming. I just coundn't do that on my A64 3200+.

I love that case too. I ended up get the Xpack. Its nice enought but I wish I had gotten the Slugo. They ahve been sell for pretty cheap lately. AMD is by far better then intel even in shuttles. I have owned 10 amd shuttles and only 1 problem with the power supply and that becasue I was use a OC 6800 in the pwoer rates was way over what it should have been.

That probably cuz the majority of enthusiasts who build their own shuttles hate intel.

Op, you can always try a mod, take a newer mobo and put it in the old case.

Pick any two: Performance, Value, Looks

If you're a student on a budget, go with a regular ATX mobo and case. If you have the time and money for size/style, consider SFF.

I would say if you want SFF/portability, DON'T go for the XQ-PACK. I have the Chenming 118 mATX case which is the non-windowed version, and it is probably 1.5x the size of a shuttle in all dimensions, probably twice the volume. It's bulky for a SFF, I think it'd be better to call it a portable desktop. The handle is pretty flimsy too, although I haven't broken it using it to carry the thing yet.
