Am I one of the few who loved Superman Returns?

I know it got bad ratings but I loved it. Sure it wasn't packed full of action but it seems to capture the essence of Superman fantastically. I've never like the original Superman movies so maybe that has something to do with it. Christopher Reeve despite his amazing character after his tragic accident and all the people he inspired afterwords was not a good actor in the original movies IMHO. I hope Bryan Singer get's to direct the next one.

I thought it was ok, but I'm not a superman guy, I lean towards Marvel comics. I thought this movie was popular???

I went into it with low expectations and came out being very please with it.

Sure there were some weak parts and some weak acting in a few scenes, but over all I thought it was a very good movie and look forward to seeing the next one.

I always liked the original Superman movie. It's a classic as far as I'm concerned.

I haven't seen the new one in its entirety but from what I have seen of it it's not bad...but not great. I'll have to give it a look though before passing final judgement.

It was alright. I was just disappointed in that it was yet another 'evil real estate agent Luthor' movie.

I hated it. It was just a remake of the old 80's movies with different actors.

Oh yeah, and could that movie POSSIBLY have had more Christ-like imagery in it?

I thought it was pretty good. Didn't care much for the whole "superman has a son" crap though. And find another villain for gods sakes.

It needed huge whacking chunks edited out. Minutes of screen time with no useful purpose except feed the director's ego and bore me. It was freaking two and a half hours, when it should've been 90 minutes tops.

Other than that, it was enjoyable to watch on DVD. Wouldn't have been as fun in the theater, where my wife and I would not have had the freedom to make fun of its cheesiness.

A big problem with the movie is that the best sequence takes place early on (the airplane bit) After that the move is a big let down.

Plus the whole Superman is beat up by kryptonite thing is old.

I would say that was a good character movie, but a bad super hero movie.

Fixed.

It was entertaining, but the plot ended up being pretty lame. Of course that was more because they were trying to stick with fitting in with the original movies instead of starting afresh like Batman Begins.

I think they did a hell of a job, actually. It was an incredibly fine line to walk -- doing something new while honoring the Superman movie history -- and they did it well.

There were many moments when I was like "Damn... that's Christopher Reeve dead on!", and it was those moments that really personalized this movie for me. Gave me chills, etc.

Sure it had its clunky moments, but that's part of it too. Spinning the world backwards to stop time? Lifting a Kryptonite island up into space? It's the same thing.

Both leads did a great job. Kevin Spacey really nailed Luthor I thought. I hope they make another.

I think the movie as a whole was OK. I agree that Kevin Spacey did a great job. The acting of the other characters was just OK, though.

Also, I don't really see where the Superman franchise can go. Superman is basically god-like in that he's indestructable to everything on earth. So what are the writers going to do? Keep churning out movies where some supervillian produces <gasp> kryptonite? again? Sorry, to have an indestructable (except to only one weakness - kryptonite) hero is boring.

I will say that Superman II with the three supervillians from Krypton was pretty good, though. :D

I don't understand why everybody refuses to do a legitimate action movie based on Superman. Why do superhero movies always have to be campy? Flying around the planet to stop time? Shooting missiles at Superman flying down a canyon while the EXACT same sound effects from Asteroids play in the background? These aren't the kinds of scenes we want to keep in movies. Superman is the single best action hero out there, as long as they write him as the super-strong-yet-still-vulnerable version he was in the comic books starting in the 90's.

Seriously, the re-imagined Batman movie, the Superman animated series, the Transformers movie, they were all much more action-oriented than the orginals, and they were all very well received. Imagine a big-budget, live-action Doomsday vs. Superman movie where they punch each other through buildings in Metropolis. That movie would KILL at the box office and be decently fun to watch as well.

I didn't really like it that much. I thought the guy who played Superman didn't really seem like Superman. Sure he resembled Christopher Reeve a bit but that wasn't enough.
Perhaps it was the storyline. They could've made that movie a bit better.

Superman Doomsday > Superman Returns.

Enjoyed the animated movie much better. ;)
