I really like to drive.

I have orders to South Korea for one year (starting in 6 months) I that time I am hoping to save up a nice down payment on an Audi S4 Avant. I want to order it in Miami and drive it to my next duty assignment...

Anchorage, Alaska! (Elemndorf AFB)

I know there is a "break in" period for new cars (might not buy new, may look at pre-owned). There is no way I am keeping her under 60MPH for that trip. How much damage are we talking here? (I drove my curent car [don't laugh], 1997 Dodge Neon, straight from the dealership in Oklahoma City to Miami. FL). No problems at all (39,000 miles later and not a single issue) (Looks and runs like new because it sat in professional storage for a combined total of 4 years. :( Oil anaylsis comes back very clean and the last time I cracked her open, the internals looked brand new (replaced valvetrain with PT Cruiser parts...beefier).

Since Mapquest sucks, here's Miami to Whitehorse, Yukon Territories

Miami, FL to Whitehorse, YT
Total Distance: 4350.95 miles Total Estimated Time: 83 hours, 23 minutes

It looks to be about 300 extra miles to Anchorage.

Say roughtly 4700 miles, about 87 hours.

Have fun!

Are the going to be enough gas stations in Northern BC?

Driving's kewl :p

I've heard of ways to "break in" your car after you buy it, but i don't think any of them are required at all...

The Alaskian National Highway (?) has provisions (gas, auto repair, lodging, etc) along the route. It's pretty common for the military to drive it. We even have a special "So, you are driving to Alaska" safety brief we have to go to. :)

That's cool. I've wanted to drive up to Tuktoyaktuk in the Northwest Territories just to do it. I have a fascination with remote places. Before I got turned down for the USAF, I told my dad I wanted to be stationed at Thule. He told me they'd give me a psych evaluation if I told them that ;)

Why'd they turn you down? :(

Well, the long version, since I'm bored....

I was playing football when I was 12. I was going for the Junior High team that following year (it was summer). I'm the running back. I get the ball, run down the left side line, try to cut in, and BAM. This dude hit me somehow. I still don't know. It hyper-extended my left knee and bent my right hip. I screamed and passed out.

Fast forward 5 years. I'm at MEPS in New Orleans. I pass everything, and get to the physical evalutaion (where we have to strip down and wiggle our arms and stuff). The guy tells us to duck walk. I try to go down, and my knees lock.

I go to some doctors, they give me a waiver. The MEPS doctor loses the waiver. So I go to the docs at my local base (Keesler AFB). I have to go for general, neuro, and ortho exams. The neuro doc was cool, and said I should be golden.

Then I get the evil ortho lady. The "No one wants to marry me, I hate everyone, you suck" kind of stuck up person that I didn't need to get. She notices that my right foot is turned a little bit. She runs an X-Ray and finds out my hip is bent slightly. She denies my waiver. Even after I told her I wanted to go career, was going into intel, she didn't care.

That was that. I'd go *right now* if they told me I could.

That wasn't so long ;)

Wow, thats interesting. I gotta go to Alasks some day...

Have fun in Korea. I'm assuming you're American so you'll get a bit higher level of automatic "respect." Avoid the American chain fast food unless its an actually restaurant like TGIF. What what you eat... it may be dog. ;) I'm not joking, there are dog restaurants.

Heck, I'd like to see pics of the whole trip. You are sure to have some good stories. Nice car to do it in too.
