Its very possible 10, just look at the basis for os 10, bsd. 10's a nice looking os, although I wont comment on performance since I've yet to use it. Will apple ever release an os for the pc? No because they've lost their only leverage to make you buy their overpriced hardware then. They're more concerned with hardware sales than OS sales.

If thats the case, cant they just use IBM/MS example? A long time ago, MS split from IBM and now its market value surpasses it. So where is the REAL money? Its not in hardware! Wake up Apple.

Apple makes the majority of their money from their hardware. I'm an Apple user by choice and I'd like to see them release OS X for PC's. Right now, Apple has to iron out all the kinks is its new OS, which IS the real deal, then worry about porting it. No reason to take your attention away from the people who bought your machines to work for people who didn't. It's true.

With the amazing numbers of people wanting OS X for PC's, why not? MS Office for Mac is about $400.........sell OS X for PC for about that, but give the first 3 full upgrades at a reduced rate. Over time, Apple will see major increases in its software library, as well as increased interest in its machines. After all, an Apple OS will always run best on an Apple machine.

Can you feel the love I have for Bill Gates, or what?! ;)

I think it'd be great. I'd love to see Steve vs. Bill in a PPV cage match......

I believe there are some good things about Macs, but I for one would go Linux before going Mac.

I just received a mac attachment on a email and after I managed to unstuffit, I was amazed that there was a folder for a desktop, a folder for a trash can, and a folder for volume setting, none of it with anything inside, execept fop two empty files. Then there were some Norton and Virex files with it and some other crap.

Damn... all I needed were three files and ended up receiving 10 files and three folders. And I think the files had their fonts inside too... what a waste!

So in my opinion Macs are beyond my simple mind, so I don't think that people that like to tinker with their PCs would want an OS like a Mac. And if you don't like to tinker with a PC then why not buy an Apple computer and avoid all the pain we go thru with our tampering.

I tried the MacOpener once and made a mess on my system, but in the other hand, if they had a cheap Apple OS that I could dual boot just so that I could work with some files that eventually reach me then I would consider it.

It's quite simple. Apple has total control over their hardware environment. Microsoft doesn't have this freedom. Apple can make their operating system more stable and faster because they have all the hardware teams onsite.

FelixDeKat - up until about 4 years ago the real money wasn't in operating systems at all, it was in office applications. MS was a small company before win 3.1 took off allowing winword to surpass word perfect and other competitors, who were caught off-guard at windows' newfound popularity. (microsoft had actually lived by making office apps for the mac prior to win 3.1) the operating system still didn't make much money even then. and all apple has is hardware and the OS.

Why would apple give up their hardware monopoly with the Mac OS? If you were able to buy reasonably priced hardware, no one would buy Apple's machines anymore.

Why would they want too. Microsoft does not profit from the OS sales they loose money. That prebundled OEM Windows and Works package that comes on your nice prebuilt Compaq/HP/DEll ect ect was given to them for a song and a dance by MS under the agreement that they do not sell prebuilt desktop machines with another OS already installed on them. If Compaq and the other big boys had to start paying for the OS package then the prices of pc's would rise through the roof.
