Hey guys, I am brand new to these boards so hoping to find some help. I recently upgraded my video card from a G4 Ti4400 to a FX 5600 Ultra. My main reason for keeping the nvidia line is because I am an Everquest player and from what I have read, EQ runs a lot better with nvidia products than ATI. My 3Dmark03 scores more than doubled with the upgrade (1582 with the G4 to 3256 with the fx 5600). So with that, I figured I would see an improvement in my games but I have not seen that. EQ and NWN still run the same. Am I missing something? I have all latest drives etc and DX9. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks.
 
Hate to say it, but the 2 cards you have/had are about the same speed.
The GF4 and GF FX are about equal. The GF FX will be faster with AA/AF, but overall speed is similar.

The 3DMark 03 score increase is due to the 5600 being able to do more tests in the benchmark as it is DX9 compliant, so it will run the DX9 test included in the benchmark, increasing its score.
 
Heh, wow. Looks like I made a great purchase then =P Is there any card where I will definitely see a significant improvement in these games, especially EQ, with in the same price range? I bought the fx 5600 at Best Buy and can still return it, hehe. Thanks again.
 
How much did you pay? The only 2 cards that could be near, but would be a stretch are the 5800 non-ultra and the 9700 non-pro.

The 9700 is probably closer to your range and would probably give you a nice performance boost over the 5600U and Ti 4400.
The 5800 is a bit more expensive I believe, so may be out of the question.
 
I paid 249 for the FX 5600 Ultra... probably a lot more than I could have online, but it was a spur of the moment purchase, hehe. So I am willing to pay mid 200s. 300 is definitely out of the question.
 
9700Pro/9800np/5800 non-ultra are your best bets. All are under $300 and all will outperform the 5600U or Ti 4400.
 
Frame rate is choppy. Not sure if anyone here is an EQ player, but it seems that I get a decent amount of "video lag." I have to keep most of the options off so I can actually move freely. Same goes for other games. Image quality seems to be fine. With my setup, I would think the game would fly or at least not be choppy.

The EQ engine is old and fill rate bound... it should be flying on that TI4400. If it's choppy, you have something else funky going on. Post your problem in the Software forum and list all of your system specs, down to the last detail.
