Nooooooooooo!
Visiontek GF3 Ti200 (from the Bestbuy thing)

All I can get to is 440mhz (from 400) for the memory :(
Anything 450+ gives me "colored dots" in the sky in dragothic in 3dmark2001 and dots on the ground in operation flashpoint. surely it's not crapping out at such low bandwidth eh? Anything obvious I'm missing?
Core is working great at 235mhz, up from 175mhz. Will push it a little further, but not much of a point if I'm limited at the memory. Any easy fixes to get this thing up a little more? Or did I just get a dink card?

BTW anything I should be looking for other than locking up/rebooting/tearing/dots when upping the GPU? Thankee.

Doesn't sound like a busted card to me.

Maybe just expectations need tweaked a bit.

If I didn't know you were disappointed, I would have said

"ya did good" (shows how much I know)

Dude, you should be able to run it however fast you want! They just just pick those stock speeds so the next time they release a card, you'll buy it for the faster stock speed. Don't let anyone tell you different.

It could be the chip/memory you got won't clock any higher? There is a difference from card to card, you know.

yeah nothing is wrong with the card at stock, just disappointed that i cant push over 440 for the memory. most cards can hit about 470+ from what i've read. was hoping to get a little more out of it. i know there is a difference from card to card. i guess i just got the short end of the stick on mine :(

the core is cruising right along without a problem at 235, can push it further but no real reason since the memory is so low.

btw i wasnt asking if my card was bad, i was just asking if i missed something simple in order to get the ram up higher. it's not worth busting the sinks off and applying asii epoxy to get another 10 out of it. im not worried about the core much, where it is is fine. was just hoping to get more out of the memory. was just going to see if there were any tricks i was unaware of to bump them up a little higher.

ah well, 10% free aint too shabby :(

I put an exhaust fan (pci slot mounting) to help get the heat out...

(I didn't want to do major modding either)

They are sold as case cooler fans, for which they are useless, but

it lowered my gpu temp 10 degrees. because the intake was so close

to the heat source, I think.

(please bear in mind, that at the time I was in a POS case and

that's probably why such a large difference.)

You may be at the limit of your memory. After the best buy deal there were a lot of us on the Hard forums comparing cards and memory and core speed. The score varied so much that some of us popped of the heatsinks. It varied from 4.5-3.8ns memory. My core is stable at 230 but any higher and it freezes or simply crashes my memory will run all day at 560. Luck gave me the 3.8ns Hynix.

yeah im already running a pci exhaust fan right under it. im happy with the core setting (especially with a stock cooler), can get more out of it but ill back off. dont really feel like popping the ram off or anything more. guess ill just wait for the gf4 ;)
