Am I missing something? LG Front-loading High efficiency washer is GARBAGE.

So we moved to a new apartment. This has rows of super sleek & shiny looking LG commercial washers. After hearing all the rave about front loading & high efficiency washers online and even ATOT, we gave it a try.

WTF is this garbage? It uses VERY little water (I understand it's high efficiency) and my load barely gets wet. By the end of the cycle, clothes come out still dirty.

My socks are nowhere near white as crappy washers, soils in clothes are aren't even close to gone. Yes we did use appropriate HE detergent.

What's all the rave? It can't do half the job of crappy 10 year old top loading washers. My socks come out sticky and stuck to each other because it didn't even proper wash/rinse- all it did was to get them wet.
 
I don't think I've read any "raves" here. Only rants.

Always the same: The whites still look dirty. I absolutely *hate* my front loader.
 
I have a front loading lg HE washer and dryer and they're great. I bought them in 09 and they haven't had any problems. Im wondering if your apt complex had them modified to use less water.
 
My wife is currently huffin' & puffin' HAND WASHING all the socks in the bath tub because the this washer SUCKS that much.
 
I have an LG front loader (just a home model, not a commercial one) and I love it. Works great. It seems much easier on the clothes than top mount washers, and as you said the clothes emerge fairly dry and also wrinkle-free. In fairness, I don't wear white socks and have a white-collar job, so am seldom asking it to wash meaningfully soiled items.
 
yeah a buddy of mine got a nice high end front loader. they do nothing but complain about how it does not get whites clean. rest of it is passable but whites suck.

you figure for $1200 it would do a good job.
 
Have a 8 year old LG steam washer and dryer and they work like champs. Our whites turn out pretty good and we end up using cold water on everything except towels.
 
You have to change the settings so that they use way more water. All of them are horrible if you use the least water setting. Which is basically like misting the clothes. Or anything below the most water.

I always use scent free washing detergent. I remember using my moms expensive HE washing machine years back. When the clothes came out, they smelled nasty and dirty. Since I didn't have scents to cover over the bad washing job and smell. I quickly found the settings and cranked the water use all the way up. Fixed that problem.

Unfortunately they usually come default at the worst water settings. And some may not go high enough depending on the brand. But it's definitely better if you crank it as high as it goes. It's all I use now. I have Samsung machines now. They work fantastic.

...and there you go. They are looking for the cheapest washers that use the least amount of water possible to save the complex money (or the company that is contracted to maintain them). I am guessing how well they cleaned didn't enter in to their buying decision on the washers.

Just one more reason to hate on the 1%'ers. They're total lack of meaningfully soiled items. 😡
Meanwhile, it's back to the basement for this little person to pre-soak.
 
I have two sets of washing front loading washing machines: a Whirlpool Duet and a Samsung. Both were the best from their respective companies. I've never had a problem with either.
 
Maytag, 8 years old now. Works great. Doesn't seem to matter the load size, I wash everything on express. As clean as any other method I've used.

This. My LG works great. Multiple options - Normal or Cotton/Towels, Extra Water, Extra Rinse, Stain Cycle, Water temp options, 5 Soil levels, etc...
 
Top loading washing machine with the agitator or go home. Mine is 30 years old and still gets clothes so clean you can feel the clean on your skin. Clothes feel different when they are really clean, even if you only "minimally soiled" them.
 
How long is the cycle on the LG, did the landlord cut it back to the minimum 29 minutes?

Also, bought a Frigidaire front load laundry center in 2008 and it works (worked?) great (in storage right now, hopefully it survived the last year and winter in storage).

It handled all of my clothing when I worked in construction, baby clothing and toddler clothing, and put a lot less wear and tear on the clothing as well.

Most of the world uses them successfully, doesn't mean there won't be stinkers produced or incorrectly configured.
 
Just went through massive research on a new washing machine as the 30 year old Kenmore we got second hand is starting to rust inside the tub. Talked to all our friends, read reviews, and yesterday bought a brand new washing machine with the technology of the 1970's. A Speed Queen. All mechanical controls, no electronics, top loader with agitator, made in the US. From everything I could find, it just works.

Kind of sucks for the OP that the provided machines are crap. Not much you can do about that.
 
Love our front load LGs. I use the speed wash settings (15-18 minute wash) and it cleans better than my last couple washers. For heavy soil, like after working on the car or outside, I use the regular wash and it's never failed to get all the dirt and stains out. Our bills (water and electric) are also quite a bit less than with our old top loaders.
