Slashdotting often results in servers getting crippled due to insane amounts of hits. It's huge exposure, and also a big pain in the arse if your website gets slashdotted.

It's not a news site it's a news discussion site. A lot of times I'll read about a new technology on there and there's a few insightful posts that explain why it's going to be crap, etc. Saves me a lot of 'I can't wait for' things. 😛

Of course, there are some items there that are boring or not really discussion worthy, but, so is most of OffTopic and we still frequent it. Just skip over the stuff you don't care about and it all works out.

just hook onto their RSS feed and you'll be the first to know geek news. That's all there is to it... no need to browse their site or the reader's comments unless you want to.
