Am I maximizing my DVD Drive?

I have the Samsung SD-616T DVD drive. I want to make sure I've set everything so it runs as fast as possible. It is a secondary IDE drive, correct? So in Device Manager, I have it set to "DMA if possible" and it says it is running at Ultra DMA 2. The HDD is a Primary IDE, I think, in anycase that says "DMA if possible" and then says Ultra DMA 5. The reason I'm asking is, I'm trying to run some divx files off of a burned DVD. There will be 10-15 seconds of smooth video, then it'll stutter like data isn't being transfered fast enough, and then it'll be smooth again.

These are the numbers listed at the Samsung site:

Average Access Time: CD 90ms
DVD 110ms

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Data Transfer Rate: DVD 16X(21,600KB/sec)
CD 48X(7,200KB/sec)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MPEG Compatible: Compatible with Various MPEG II Cards
CD 48X(7,200KB/sec)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Burst Transfer Rate: Pio Mode 4 (16.6MB/Sec)
DMA Mode 2 (16.6MB/sec)
Ultra DMA supported

So, I'd like to know if I didn't set it up right, or it's having a hard time reading the DVD-R, or something else. Thanks.

It's not reading the dvd well. Nothing's wrong with the setup. I had a dvd drive that would skip or freeze on even new dvds. I let my sister have it.

Ok. I played it again, it seems I had the file window open and everything in tumbnail format, so *maybe* it was checking those little thumbnails at some refresh interval or something. I played a few movies so far and it seems to be fine, thanks for rechecking that I have the setup correct at least.

Time to try and get a few hours sleep, maybe the earthquakes will rock me to sleep, just had a baby 3.7.
