Fortunately, there are still a few titles that are worth playing and community mods are usually outstanding.

I've been feeling the same way too.

The gaming industry isn't the same one we had while growing up. (Most of us anyway, the ones who grew up during the times where 200mhz computers were considered "Speed Demons")

This topic has been been talked about day in and day out on other forums, and it basically comes down to innovation versus technology advances. There was a lot of crap back then as there is now, it's just that the crap back then couldn't reach as much of an audience as it does now. Because of technology limitations as well, game creators had to be more innovative to get their game noticed.

It's gotten to a point where we are getting ports of older games as "retro" titles, and sequels shoved down our throats because nothing original can be made anymore. New titles are always "Spiritual successors" of something or another, rather than being something that stands on its own two feet as a genre. Also the invention of MMORPGS basically destroyed any company's will to make stand alone games anymore when those could be made with massive profits.

The GBA/DS have been holding the majority of my gaming fix over the previous years over my PC, something I didn't want to happen. As a matter of fact, I haven't upgraded my gaming rig in 2 1/2 years, literally blasphemy on my part considering for the last 10 years, I've always do partial upgrades from 8-10 months. I've probably missed 3 cycles by now, and still not motivated to upgrade my rig OTHER than a larger LCD screen which is always welcome, heh.

I don't know what to say anymore. Everything that needs to be said has been said by other gamers and posters in this topic and on other boards. I've gotten older like everyone else, but it's definitely not my aging and experiencing new things that makes me not game as much as I use to. I'd go back to my old habits of gaming 5 hours straight a day (even with a full time job and a wife) if something could hold my interest.

Crap, I remember when 33Mhz 486 was consiedered overkill. People said "what do you need all of that for"?

I'm sure this has been beaten to death, but on the off chance it hasn't...

Isn't it possible that games are still fun, but you guys are simply maturing out of them? That might even be a good thing, just ask your spouses...

I play games almost solely for plot. The game play gets old, but good stories don't. Of course most games have crappy plots, and that's why I also read novels. Actually I prefer novels to games now because games just take so long to get through and I no longer have the kind of free time to waste like I did in school. There are occasionally games that are fun just for its gameplay, like TF2.

Most of them do not have spouses as they spend most of their time playing games and not playing with....

Nah...it's the games. The amount of recycled crap is reaching critical mass.

I was feeling the same..had a new gaming rig on which I hardly played

..then I played BioShock.

I had to FORCE myself to slow down and not play it...didn't want to beat it in one sitting.

The fire is still there. It's just the coal we're getting that sucks.

DITTO! Same here man...Bioshock is the first game in quite a few years that really engaged me and made me remember why I consider myself a "gamer" even though I hardly play any more.

Play it on a decent system in a DARK room, with the sound UP, and you will be reminded what videogames are supposed to be about.

There's nothing like it ;)

Yes, scary as hell!!! Picking up the shotgun for the first time was my whoa moment in that game. Lights go off (somewhat predictably) after picking up the shotgun, then I hear a scraping on the floor as the music begins to get screachy, and next thing I know I'm plugging buckshot into deranged looking dentists that have scissors the size of my head dragging behind them. Not to mention the inky black sky, fire on the water, and lighthouse in the distance at the opening was just plain theatrical.

The key to a majority of todays games is finding friends to play with. If you have a group of friends, then you will find many multi-player games fun because there is the constant strive to compete and outdo each other. As people enter their 20s, they have a difficult time finding people to play with, thus leading to a boring gaming experience.

been there done that.
tolerating a slog/make work game to see a cr@p ending isn't worth the time. i only play if i'm entertained, not if i'm fustrated.
and yea most games are just retreads, after a while you've done it all before in different form.
i like mostly online games, a quick battle here or there, not much time investment needed.
if a game takes 30+ hours to finish, i'll never see the end so i avoid those. mmorpgs i stay away from as well.
i'm at the point where its more amusing to read about what games are coming out than to actually play the game.

I'm sick of the same old/same old...like Half Life 2 Episode 3 will be anything to look forward to.

I'm hoping Alan Wake and Mafia 2 rekindle my interest level. Far Cry 2 might be not do it, Deus Ex 3 is a toss up.

I feel the same way. i don't care for alot of the new titles. I start to play them, then I get bored and stop playing. Games are often too repetitive. And then some series get ruined. Like Call of Duty. First game was great, the rest sucked, including the new one. It bites. Boring. The only thing i play now is COD MP. still lots of servers up so..
