Am I just stupid?

I recently (today) got my Sony Alpha A200. I purchased it on eBay... Physically it seems perfect. However, I can't get the Menu/Display/Play/Trash/Function buttons to work. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong, if anything.

Is there a button lock or something?

Nothing happens when I press Menu, no matter what mode I am on. I can take pictures though.

Is there a button locking mechanism on the camera?

No there isn't, I contacted Sony, I guess something is wrong with it.

I've sent it back already. I'm just going to buy a New one. (Non-ebay, likely Abes of Maine)

I'd consider it, but I'd get a Nikon before a Canon. Just because my brother has a D90 and I could borrow his lenses.

However, Given the price point and features, I prefer the Sony over the other two. (D40/D60 & Xti) I know I'm sacrificing some quality, but I'm not sure how much I'm going to like the hobby at this point. It seems like it'll be a lot of fun, but I never quite know until I'm in to it. I can always move to something else.

Be sure to go through Live.com for cashback at Abes of Maine (and others). As of today, it's a 2.50% rebate from Microsoft--at least when I ran a search for a D90.

If there's a Circuit City in your area, check them out. The one in Fort Collins, Colorado was still totally loaded on Sony DSLR's and accessories last time I was there, at 30% off - the a200 was $350. A coworker told me they went to the next tier of discounts here today (40%), which would bring the cost down to $300 if he's right.

Yeah, pretty much :)

I got myself a Canon 55-250mm IS for $231... I've seen better deals on occasion online, but I didn't have to pay shipping. Those all sold out quick though, they were out the next time I was there.

I called my local CC and they didn't have any left... I'll perhaps go and check one out today... Might as well.

I ended up getting one off of Craigslist. The guy was looking for $500, I emailed him and told him I'd give him $350. It's the A200k, with 12 pictures taken so far... He got it late January and two days after he got an A350 for his birthday. It's in perfect condition with a Receipt and all documentation and such. (One would hope with only 12 pictures on it)

Now I just need to get a 50mm Prime and a CP filter for the 18-70mm.
