Am I just missing something?

So I made the jump from 60Hz to 85Hz on my monitor, and I notice absolutely no difference. Mind you I haven't played Source yet, but I've done everything else I do (video editing, etc) and it seems exactly the same to me. What's so good about it?

Apparently, staring at that flickering 60hz screen for years has made you blind, and now you can't see anything.

Either that, or you're doing this on an LCD, just because you're dumb.

I can easily see a difference between 60Hz and 85Hz. I asked a co-worker how he could work on his 60Hz monitor all damn day and he said, "huh?" I changed it to 85Hz and I could tell the difference and he couldn't, so I set it back to 60Hz and let him suffer.

Anything less than 85 Hz on a crt gives me a headache.

i fyou have an lcd, you wont notice. you should be able to tell on a crt.

Hmmm... I'm using a CRT and I still don't notice.

Sorry my parents never spoiled me and I didn't get a brand new monitor whenever one came out so I didn't have to use 60Hz douchebags. :roll:

I have no idea. I never get headaches and I use computers ~5 hours a day. It's just people saying sh1t like that because they're so used to their brand new 2005fpw. :disgust:

I found 72+ is my sweet spot, and just happens to be my monitors max at 1600x1200

you need your eyes checked, i can tell the diffbetween 60->75 and then 75->85

75 is the least thats bareable, well actually 72 works as well and im forced to use it as 75 on one of my monitors has issues

open up a blank word doc at 60 Hz or anything with a lot of white on it, if youdont see it flicker then you are blind

I see a bit of a flicker even at 85, but it's not like it's any different than 60. I expected the colors to be better and for the picture to look way better. It's really not that big of a difference.

Some people see the 'flicker' of 60Hz and get headaches. I see it and I don't like it. I use to run 100Hz but I changed over to an LCD 2years ago.

Are you SURE your desktop resolution is actually changed?

Sometimes you have to adjust 2 or 3 settings in the control panel.

I changed it from the Catalyst control center. Should I have to change it in Display too?

also can your monitor even support 85Hz? some monitors will let you set it to 85 or whatever even if they dont support it, itll tell you that you running 85 in windows but the monitor may still be doing 60

open up the OSD for the monitor itll tell you what its at in there

I don't notice the difference either, but I keep my refresh rate high so my max FPS using Vsync can be higher.
(Tearing pisses me off)
Edit: Just checked. I was running 60 Hz. It doesn't bother me at all. I changed it to 75(max at 1600x1200) and I don't see any difference. *shrug*
