Am I insane?

So last night at work I injured myself pretty good (sprained ankle) and I am in an incredible amount of pain. I also cannot move my right-foot in any direction or put any sizable amount of pressure on it.

I am scheduled to work today too (in an hour) and I am still going to go and just deal with the pain knowing that today for some god forsaken reason is our busiest day of the week and the owner is a cheap-ass and under staffs us for some reason every on the week ends.

How I sprained my ankle:
I'm a one of several dishwashers at a popular restaurant and one of our tasks to to take carry out orders (which is retarded) and well I had just got done taking a carry out order and began walking back to the dish washing station and unknowingly I was standing on some warm soapy water when the phone rang again and I turned to start walking over to answer it and I slipped causing my ankle to roll and then my foot bent backwards (imagine standing on the side of your foot then pushing it back). I did it early in the day and were understaffed as is so I opted to continue working the rest of the night.

This isn't the first time I've continued to work injured either, at a previous job (when I was still in HS) I had had a small accident which included a deli slicing machine and my finger. I just went out to a clinic had them clean it up and stop the bleeding, then I went back to work that day.

If you're going to be sitting down, take some ibuprofen and suck it up. A kid sliced his finger pretty deep where I worked over the summer. He didn't whine about it, but our supervisor told him to go to the hospital and take the day off.

You're probably not going to be any good to them. But a rolled ankle isn't the end of the world. Ice and elevation. Take some ibuprofen or anything that will thin the blood to help with the swelling.

The job requires I be standing up and walking around. So, there won't be any sitting involved.

True it isn't it is just a weird but painful feeling though. Right now I have it wrapped up in an ace bandage (give it some stability sames my foot is mildly limp).

..1700's era stove pipe hat wearers in England use to polish their hats with mercury. Gave the hat a real nice glean. Thus the term "mad hatter".

Just ask yourself this:

Are you sure you ankle is just sprained? I see no indication in your post that you went to see a doctor (hint).

Is your present job worth possibly extending your recovery time? Or is it worth further injury to your ankle?

It's not gonna get better by going back to work....

Up to you bud....

Like others are saying; recovery is paramount. I learned that the hard way, when I kept going hard despite having severely mangled my knees/feet. It really isn't worth it in the long run.

Being a restaurant - I would question the up-to-datedness of their workers comp program. also by not immediately informing your superiors - you may have just fucked yourself out of any workers comp time/treatment to which you would otherwise have been entitled.

Now you've opened yourself up to:

1. "What do you mean your not coming in. Your fired"

2. "YOUR FIRED"

3. "You hurt yourself at work and didn't tell anyone? YOUR FIRED"

or

4. "OK thats fine, come in when you can"

the worst: 5. "Your ankle must be amputated because the break got infected and you didn't seek help - help that was free to you with workers comp - Now you gotta pay out of pocket to get your ankle sawed off".

BTW - all employers are required to pay workers comp for this reason.

If your job doesn't pay (because they are small and think they can skip under the radar) - you could sue them...

It's hard for me to see any win at all in any of this.

Whenever you get injured you should let your manager know right away.

For safety/health/legal/compensation reasons.

Also, I'm home from work. heh. Sundays are always busy right up til liek 8,8:30 when everyone live at once.

Edit:
In onther news, I got a raise today(unreleated to injury; I didn'ttell her until after she told me I was getting a raise.).
