I sold this person my old laptop which has fairly major cracks in the hinges but works perfectly. None of the cracks affect the laptop functionality in any way. He complains to me that the Drive must be opened and closed manually (this is normal for laptops isnt it?!) and that he "cannot get online". Here is a link to the auction: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESO%3AIT&rd=1

I stated that there are cosmetic deficiences that don't affect the laptop performance in the auction, and yet he says i didnt specify that there were cracks in the laptop, doesnt this count? and I said unless the item is DOA all sales are final (at the bottom). He wants a refund, what the fvck do I tell him?

small cosmetic deficiences
I'd expect that to be scratches and abrasion wear not cracks. Definitely in the grey area ethically.

But yes, the other two criticisms have no merit unless there is something wrong with the modem or network ports, or in the Windows drivers and networking support.

Did you use the restore CD to get back to a fresh install of Windows before sending it?

Yes I did, I also know for a fact the modem works, I used it before I sent it, I suppose I need to be more specific about things that dont affect the actual functionality next time, but do you supposed this guy deserves a refund?

Manually closing the drive as in closing the CD-rom drive? That's standard on a cd-rom laptop drive.

I think you're both a bit wrong, in a way.

You were definitely vague in your description. I probably would have stated more clearly the exact deficiency in order to prevent the kind of problem which you encountered.

On the other hand, as a buyer he failed by not communicating and getting the details from you prior to bidding.

Sounds like this could have been a smooth deal had both parties communicated a bit better.

Being in electronics retail I firmly believe that anyone who buys on E-Bay gets what they deserve.

"Buyer beware"

If that helps your conscience, you're welcome.

Not really. At most maybe a small refund for the description being a little too vague.

It does sound like this is an unsophisticated (to be nice) buyer who is having problems because they don't know what they are doing, which is not your fault.

You are correct! :)

In my opinion it's always good to include all details/issues in a sale, no matter how small, in anticipation of buyers that don't know what they're doing.

I hope the payment was money order, 'cause if you used PayPal, you're gonna get a charge back and get pwn by another dumb J6P. Gratz.
