So I bought an i5-2500k cpu, and a Xigmatek Dark knight S1283V cooler. Unfortunately when I recieved the cooling fan from NewEgg it didn't come with push down pins to nail it to the motherboard.

I noticed this after i had put artic silver down on the CPU. So I ended up just putting the STOCK CPU cooler that came with the CPU down on the Artic silvered CPU. I noticed the stock CPU fan had 3 lines of artic silver goo on it as well.... should I bother turning this on? will I be ok running the stock fan and can I just pull it out when I receive the proper screws for the Xigmatek fan?

How do I know if I have too much artic silver down now?

what would you do?

if i turn the cpu on and it heats up, will it be harder to replace the fan in the future?

Nah, you should be fine. Most people use a razor blade and rubbing alcohol to remove the old thermal material before putting on AS. You only need a very thin layer between the surfaces.

If you have it on too thick, (and it sounds like you may) you'll know it pretty quickly. The CPU will get HOT.
