Am I having migranes or is this something else that I should be concerned about?

Mainly asking the people who have migranes or similar experiences that I am having lately.

I was under the impression that migranes lasted a while, and you see white for a while. Maybe that's accurate, I dunno. But that's not what I'm having.

It used to happen about once every month or two starting about a year ago, but now in he past 3-4 weeks it has jumped to 1-5 times per day.

Here is what happens: Just out of the blue, sometimes I can feel it coming on about 4-5 seconds before it happens, a portion of my brain just hurts immensely. I can't recall where it happened before but I thought it varied, but the last about 10 times it has happened, it always been on the left side of my head...about 45degrees if looking at me, right in the middle from front to back. about the size of a child's fist. it feels like someone has just grabbed my brain and is squeezing it for about 4-10 seconds and then lets go. Sometimes the pain just stops 100%, couldn't even tell anything happened, other times I can tell it happened in the area it did. While it happens if I put my hand against it I can feel throbbing. The throbbing stops after the pain stops.

So is that a migrane? My stress level definately has gone up considerably in the past month or two so I'm guessing that's what's causing it. Just one and half more months and I'll be out of this class (definately the most difficult class I've ever taken in any subject....a college probability course for those interested.)

I'll most likely be making a doctors appointment when I get the time to go, as I'm a little scared I could hemorage.

trust me on this. What GtPrOjEcTX forgot to mention is that he/she recently climbed mout everest.

Its Cerebal Edema, GtPrOjEcTX has about 24 hours to live.

What you are experiencing is not a migraine. If I were you I would be scared sh1tless and head for the ER as fast as I could. You could wind up having a stroke and become incapacitated or die.

Do not pass GO, do not collect $200, go immediately to the ER.

not a traditional acute migraine, nor a cluster migraine, nor stress induced migraine. Same location is a bad indicator. It is ~possible~ that it is caused by physical pressure of something wrong in your nogin! Any tumor, growth, or swelling could cause this.

It is not somehting to freak out about. It could easily be something else all together, but it does need to be checked out. And the Doctor will probably need to send you to get some scans or see a neurologist...

Goodluck!

thanks for the concern from the ernest. as I stated I will be heading to the doctor when I get a chance. Thanks for confirming its not a migrane.

i am not a doctor, and only know from my own experience, but i don't think that is a migrane. migranes are intense headaches that last a long time (sometimes just a day, other times up to a week), and are accompanied by increased sensitivity to light, sound, and touch. you may also get nauseus (sp?) and throw up repeatedly. you can feel them coming on but you have more like an hour of warning, not 4-5 seconds. in my case, if i can pump myself full of advil in that hour, i can usually head it off at the pass and avoid the full migrane. i also once had a stomach migrane, which is similar but your stomach hurts. that was without a doubt the most painful thing i've ever experienced. i literally thought i was dying and i had someone go get help, but then it passed. lasted about 3 hours or so.
