I'm scratching my head over this. Running W2K Pro, SP2. IBM DeskStar 75GXP 46G hard drive. Drive is divided into five partitions: one primary partition, the balance was set as an extended partition with four logical drives within that. 20G's remaining were set aside as free space. Installed Office XP Pro, and one of the logical drives disappeared, and the other logical drives became primary partitions. The free space became unallocated space. Now, that unallocated space remains inaccessible because I now have four primary partitions on my drive, the max allowable under W2K.
WTF? Any clues on this mystery? Call me puzzled!
