am I going overboard and does it help my vid card at all?

its possible, its an old sys. i just upgraded my ram not to long ago but the reason I think its GPU related is it ONLY happened when playing wow..and like I said it was giving me some graphical anomalys. I opened the case and watched my VC and felt it..it got VERY hot while playing but cooled down significantly when it wasnt..also it seemed to play ALOT longer running at 800x600 but seemed to crash at 1024x768
 
PSU is only about 2 yrs old...I upgraded the case, PSU, DVD burner, RAM all within the last 2 years
