my internet used to be fast before i left for college...whenever i come to visit, its so damn slow.

i used to be either 4 mb/s or 6 mb/s and now its anywhere from 226 kbps-1.9mb/s lol. i asked my mom and she's still paying full price for it, so im curious as to whether the company is limiting us or something.

she doesnt use the internet much and my sister is a retard and wouldnt really be able to tell. could it possible be the router slowing down my internet? i dont think so because i had the router up before and it was running perfectly.

damn roadrunner

1) disconnect router
2) plug pc directly into cable modem
3) check the modem signal levels

Maybe your connection is capped for too much uploading/traffic? Call them up and ask, you never know...

If your ISP is smart, they will have a clause stating that they will not guarantee a minimum connection speed, only the maximum.

Are you living somewhere where they're transferring the service to Comcast? If so then God help you.

If you also live in Florida consider going back to dialup, it will be the better long term solution, trust me. (Long story)

Bright house networks, I do have problems with the network dropping me though, it can
get annoying when it happens 3-4 times an hour. Sometimes it will go 5-6 days and not
drop me once but then can have some "bad" days were it drives you NUTS...

Does your router make a strange noise or feel like you could fry an egg on it? :p I had that happen when one was dying, you could wave your hand over the thing and predict how slowly data would transfer by the temp. If anyone has been running bittorrent, some routers have lousy firmware that doesn't delete old connections right when they close and that can make the router trip over itself.

Spyware can also kill your speed, and a computer needing maintenance/reformat can seem hella slow loading anything.

I'm overdue for a clean OS re-install, a three year old install just gets muddy even with
maintenance, Thinking of C2D upgrade in April so might as well hold on till then.
