Am I gaming to game anymore?

I still game to game.

I don't have the time (work and family) nor the patience to even attempt to get all the achievements of each game. Especially the ones like gather 60 gazillion Xs or beat the game on ultra stupid hard with a zillion respawning enemies.

I have identified some quirk of my mind that is fed by my hours clocked and achievements earned compared to those of my friends.

Please help me remove it. It serves no purpose and I hate! it. Please.

I used to think I cared about acheivements, then I got back into PC gaming and that went away. I think it's an issue of time and money because when I had lots of time and little money I would rely on achievements to add more reason to keep playing the few games I could get. Now I have money to game but little time, so those little virtual goals aren't important because I'm lucky to even finish a game anymore... let alone go through more after the fact to make sure it's more complete.

If you still play games that don't have achievements then you still game to game. I know I still play FF7, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, etc. from time to time still.

I'm an achievement whore in general, though. When I get new games I try my best to get every trophy (I'm a PS3'er), and to me it helps me get the most value out of my purchases.

i ignore them in all games that have them. the only ones i get are then ones everyone gets i do not go out of my way to get them.

how much less?

less than i care about a steaming pile of dogshit 🙂

I dont understand why all games have gone to a achievement system, isnt the point of beating the game the sense of accomplishment/achievement? I feel they only added achievements so the console kiddies could play a game for a few min get a few achievements and feel like they actually accomplished something and it makes them feel good about themselves.

Personally i find it not fun anymore trying to get some of the stupid achievements like collect all 5000 feathers or kill 200 dudes with headshots from a spike gun or whatever. When it stops being fun it starts becoming work and just isnt worth it.

From another thread:

Disagree. I play a lot of games just for the achievements, so I can compare to my friend's achievements. A lot of the time I'm forced to play a game way, WAY past the point where it's fun in order to get the achievements.

I know someone who buys games SOLELY to get achievement points. Even if he doesn't like the game. He will play one game until he gets 1000/1000, then start the next one. He has a huge collection of games, many of which haven't even been opened.

There are only three games that I've purposefully tried to attain the achievements in:

TF2 - they were (mostly) fun and I play the game a ton. The majority you get just by playing anyway and only a few for each class take some work.

WoW - Again, some of them were fun and there was the additional incentive of getting cool titles and/or rewards for some of the bigger achievements.

LOTRO - What the game calls "Deed", these give you a couple benefits for completion. You get a Perk (stat boost) and now also points to spend in the store.

Other than that, I can't really be bothered to do achievements and just enjoy the game for what it is.

I get some when I think they add to my enjoyment of the game. Meatboy, for example. getting achievements in that game is super hard, but satisfying.

I think people are finally starting to realize how ridiculous achievements are and how it's just a cheap way to keep people playing. Now we just need to stop being addicted to them, which will never happen, gaming companies know that human competitive nature will never allow this.

I am a completionist when it comes to gaming, even before achievements (I've actually COMPLETED games like Oblivion, Morrowind, FFX, etc..), so I tend to be an achievement whore because it goes in part with being a completionist.

I have an obsessive-compulsive personality disorder when it comes to gaming, even before achievements (I've actually COMPLETED games like Oblivion, Morrowind, FFX, etc..), so I tend to be an achievement whore because it goes in part with having an obsessive-compulsive personality disorder.

Fixed 😛
