Am I gambling with the Antec Minuet?

I plan on purchasing the Minuet for a pc I am building for a very tight space that will be in plain view in a family room type environment. So the case has to be aesthetically pleasing.

The problem is that this will be the main PC of this household and light gaming (integrated video) and DVD burning duties will be required of the rig. Question is will heat be a problem if I run a P4 1.6GHz 2x256MB DDR, 1x Hitachi 7200rpm hdd, & LG DVD burner? I don't want to risk getting the Minuet if this means I will be compromising the system's overall stability. Because most reviews says this thing runs hot!

But I guess I'll never know unless I try huh:frown:

A friend of mine got one of these and yes ... it gets darn hot ... one time a candle started melting away on top of it :D

AFAIK u can only install one 40mm fan in it. And with that 7200 HD of yours that case is gonna be good for baking your own cakes! ;)

But I guess there's always the heat prob with those small cases and the high sys specs.

The new versions of the Minuet have an 80mm fan mount on 1 side.

The original was designed for sub 3 Ghz systems in mind.

What are the dimensions you are working with?

There are tons of mATX options out there, many allowing for full height PCI cards (unlike the minuet) and and more reasonably sized.

This is what I am using. Its my family room computer installed in my cofee table. 13.5 x 13.5 inches (or so) and 5.5" high. Rated for a P4 3ghz:

It's a chenbro and you can get it from ewiz for $31 plus shipping.

Another well reviewed case is the athenatech A100. About the same size and does not look too bad.

With that Antec Minuet...

I've always had this theory that if your cable management and organization was so tidy and neat, and if you had excellent airflow w/ a great outtake fan, i dont see the problem of using it, just some good hard work w/ organization.

just my 2 cents

FYI, I just got the Antec Minuet from MWAVE.com and it does have a new space for an 80mm intake fan. The grill work is top notch too, allows for maximum airflow.

I'm gonna put a multi-color 4 led fan in there and freak out my aunt:p

Very quiet. Quietest setup I've ever worked with. And this is coming from a quiet freak.

I can sum up the noise as to it being "a tad louder or equal to the sound from a retail intel HSF/FAN" which is nearly inaudible/whisper quiet to me.

I'd love it if you could post some interior case pics, especially including a pic of the new 80mm fan grill/mount. Thanks!

Had to laugh when I saw your pictures.

That is one of the first things I did to the case I link to above --- pop a 92mm hole and fan in the side in the exact same location.

If the minuet had full size cards and was not so %#%@ long I would have condidered it. If the height can take 5" you get a lot more for your money and space by going with an Athenatech A100 or the case I link to.

Heh, if they could somehow incorporate a AGP/PCI Riser Card it'd sell like hot cakes.
