Am I expecting too much from my photo color printer?

I have a Epson 825. I was trying to print some pics taken with my digicam and the photos look nowhere near like a "real photo". I'm using glossy paper and all. Am I expecting too much?

Are you using the correct type of paper? i know some photo printers dont use all brands of glossy the same way.

And ofcourse.. what megapixel/resolution/size are you trying to print?

Edit.. also.. Kodak glossy as different printer settings depending on the printer you use it with. Maybe that could be a reason as well.

I've tried Staples glossy and Hammermill. The photos are 3.2 MP size and I just want a puny 4x6 print. They don't look sharp enough and there are some weird vertical lines

Ive tried the Staples.. and wasnt all that impressed with it. I have a canon i850. I bought the Staples brand after I ran out of the sample Canon brand sheets. I then bought Kodak. Kodak was the best out of all of them. Especially because it gives you the exact settings for the printer so that it prints well with your printer.

I use Kodak Glossy with my Canon i850 also 🙂

That's good to hear because I saw a Hot Deal on FW for Kodak paper. Staples buy 2 - get 1 free, also CostCo had 75 packs on sale as well.

Costco is also going to have the kodak paper 100 pack on sale in a few weeks.. for $8cdn off.. not sure how much for in the states. but for that price im getting it. It's well worth it.

Is this a photo printer?

I have an Epson Stylus Photo 700 that can make printouts look better than the originals.

Yup, best 130 bucks spent in a while 🙂

If you're using Epson ink, try Epson paper too, they're designed to be used together.

Have you tinkered with the advanced printer settings?

I have an Epson Photo Stylus 875DC and Epson glossy photo paper. Not impressed. I'd rather do Ofoto.com for 25 cents each these days... and I was printing 2MP pics which should be at least decent for 5x7s. Even 4x6s were only ok. Just go with ofoto, shutterfly, or clubphoto and quit wasting money on that expensive paper/ink.

sadly that seems to be the reality. It looks ok for regular prints, but I guess I will develop the family vacation photos at costco

I like my dye-sub printer. Since there's only one brand of supplies for it, the results are always excellent. My 2mp 4x6 prints look great.

You should check out a Stylus Photo 1270 or 1280. Fantastic print outs.

If you want the best then check out the Stylus Photo 2200p.

If you are getting lines, either you aren't printing in photo mode or something is defective in the printer. That's what photo mode is supposed to do, make sure the line indexing doesn't allow unevenness or lines.

Thanks for all the great posts and recommendations, bought a Canon i560 last night for $70 after rebate with free shipping 🙂

could also mean you have some dust/dirt on your print head. look at the catridge and see if theres some gunk on it that there shouldn't be.

Rossman, the software is a little tricky. Make sure One Touch to Better Pictures is enabled (you have to enable it under options in the Easy Share software).

If you have any problems, feel free to PM me.
