Am I ever going to play something as good as God of War?

I am not really a console gamer, while I do appreciate them, none of them hold my interest for very long. That is until someone gifted me a ps2, seeing as how cheap the used games are, I went out and bought a half dozen supposedly great games. I got sick of all of them inside a couple of hours.

That is until I popped in God of War 2, which blew me away, I have never had so much fun playing a console game.

Now I am wondering if GoW is a typical gaming experience or is it just in a league of it's own, and It's unlikely that I would be this impressed by any other PS2 game.

God of War and God of War 2 are just epic in their own right. I'd also give the original Devil May Cry a go if you like action titles.

It really depends on your taste. There are hundreds of demos on PSN (unless you only have a PS2?) for you to download and try out, and they're free! 🙂

Just go to the adventure section and start downloading.

God of War is a particularly awesome series and I haven't seen much come close to how well it's all done. Devil May Cry is a decent series if you want more of the epic fighting, but the story and rest of game isn't as good. There are other games that are just as epic, but in totally different genres so it's hard to say if you'll like them.

If you're strictly speaking about the PS2 then probably not. The GOW series came pretty late in the PS2's existence and stood apart in terms of graphics and playability. You'll have to look toward the PS3 or 360 for anything that can really compare. However, if you're sticking to the PS2 you may want to give Shadow of the Colossus a try. It's not as action packed as GOW (as in action every second) but is truly a masterpiece in it's own right.

I am a huge fan of Okami, thought it might not be your cup of tea. It's the only ps2 game I've completed (haven't played many, but working on Shadows of the Colossus). The God of War games don't seem like my type, but apparently everyone and their mother loves them. I suppose I should sit down and play them at some point.
What exactly is it that is so great about God of War?

It's a button masher. They're pretty boring. I don't care for them on consoles, but I did enjoy GoW:Chains of Olympus on the PSP.
