Am i eligible to get this for free?

I bought a Sony STR-k502p receiver as a clearance/display model and it didn't come with a remote or a manual. I'm having some minor trouble with the unit that i'm hoping the manual will cover. Who can i call/email to get this?

edit: i don't know the model number of the remote. Is there a better remote to use other than the OEM remote (excluding that $100 universal remote control that does EVERYTHING).

it was a clearance/display model. The unit came "as is". I'm sure if they still had the remote, they would have given it to me.

depends - sometimes clearance or open-box/display models are sold as-is, with the understanding that you get a discount as compensation for the missing parts. The manual (or at least instructions) may be available on-line - did you check Sony's website? You may be on your own for the remote, or you may try calling customer service, they may or may not be sympathetic.

Being sold as-is means you accept that it was a display model and not all parts may/will come with it. I hope you didn't pay full retail price for it. If you got a decent amount off just contact Sony and buy a remote/manual

Sony doesn't have the manuals out on their website?

Beat me to it. I know they do. They are downloadable .pdf's.

my manual is combined with another manual in the pdf. I'm not sure if the PDF is a clone of the real thing or not, but i'd like to know whether or not there was a dedicated manual to my receiver. My main concern is really the remote i guess.

You bought the receiver "as is" and are not eligible for a free remote. However, you can purchase a new one directly from Sony.

1. You can p/u an inexpensive universal remote for about $25

2. Manufacturers like Sony/Kenwood/Pioneer/JVC often combine several models of a product line into one instruction manual. The basic operation is the same, but the higher line models just have extra features. You have the 502....the instruction manual may read something like this::

Sony Receiver Features:
1. AM/FM (STR 502/503/505)
2. Digital Input (STR 502/503/505)
3. Taco maker (taco maker only on STR-k505p

MichaelD: you're a genius! I just remembered that i have this remote and i saw that it said "preprogrammed", so i tried it and it works great!!!!

Thanks again guys 🙂
